I was wondering if there was a Lando thread but it was a few pages back.
I saw an article yesterday stating he has given up drinking this year to totally focus on the racing. In my mind this isn't necessarily a good thing. Stress outlets and letting your hair down are absolutely key in life. He mentions last year he went out drinking in Amsterdam the weekend before his win in miami.
I can't help but think this is the wrong approach for him. He's putting too much pressure on himself.
The headline is about a small incident on said night out last year but it's not the most interesting point.

Alcohol is a poison and trigger for anxiety and depression, if he wants to be at his best he's better off not drinking.I saw an article yesterday stating he has given up drinking this year to totally focus on the racing. There's a reason why elite sportsmen (Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Kane, Andy Murray to name just three) abstain from alcohol.
I absolutely agree that letting one's hair down and de-stressing is important, but there's absolutely no reason to suggest that those things need to involve alcohol.

Sure but there is big difference between a few swigs of champagne on the podium / glass of wine once a week and going on a bender in Amsterdam (which I think was the reference for last year)UKsandman said:

I think most people use alcohol as a coping mechanism to let their hair down after work or at the weekend and that isn't usually a red flag.
I really don’t think that most people use alcohol has a coping mechanism. It was be a very sad state of affairs if they did. Good health, a great partner, family and friends, a job you enjoy, a good meal...etc...

There’s apparently a Twitter-mob of “Lando Fans” mass emailing McLaren saying that they’re not treating Lando equally with Oscar, for what appears to be no reason other than Oscar winning races, and McLaren not appealing the first lap incident last weekend.
A couple of examples:

https://x.com/f0urmula1/status/1919851231809339561
It appears to be dawning on them that McLaren have the car to beat but Oscar is the favourite to win the championship.
FWIW I think the team are doing as well as Mercedes did with two bulls in one field 2015-16, it’s not an easy job for the team to manage that situation with the championship at stake.

I agree. McLaren are doing a good job. I trust we will see more ebb and flow of Oscar and Lando for P1 of the WDC. Lando is not done yet, even if Oscar is performing so well. He went for a gap that he probably shouldn't have and had to pass Max after Oscar had shown the McLaren's strengths, the inside line had been cleaned, and the braking points revealed.
I think Lando does look the weaker in overtaking and defending, but perhaps better overall on tyre management. Oscar is stronger on certain tracks and Lando on others, so all to play for IMHO.

I agree it’s very close between them. Lando’s weakness has always been his starts, and he put himself in the working place vs MV on Sunday. That gap was always going to close, and Max will keep doing it to him until there’s consequences. Lando doesn’t want to risk the crash though, because with a three-way fight the beneficiary is Oscar. And Max relies on Lando realising that. The problem is Max knows Lando too well, knows he is a sportsman and (edit, knowsLando) will play fair.PhilAsia said:

Oscar pushed Max into making a mistake which very few drivers are capable of.
I felt last year if there was to be a WDC in papaya, it would be Piastri...I think thats how it's going to play out this year.

Up until last weekend the odds were the same for Oscar & Lando but now Oscar is odds on and Lando's odds have drifted out as have Max's.

But then the guy won his third race in a row - statistically that must be pretty rare for anyone that doesn't then go on to win the championship.

The odds I saw already favoured Piastri, but yea, there wasn't much in it.

You have me looking for examples! It has happened a few times:But then the guy won his third race in a row - statistically that must be pretty rare for anyone that doesn't then go on to win the championship.
2021 Hamilton (Sao Paulo, Qatar, Saudi Arabia)
2016 Hamilton actually won 4 consecutive races twice during the season without taking the title (Austria, Britain, Hungary, Germany and USA, Mexico, Brazil, Abu Dhabi)
2015 Rosberg (Mexico, Brazil, Abu Dhabi)
2006 Schumacher (USA, France, Germany)
1998 Schumacher (Canada, France, Britain)
1994 Hill (Belgium, Italy, Portugal)
1993 Hill (Hungary, Belgium, Italy)
1991 Mansell (France, Britain, Germany)
1990 Prost (Mexico, France, Britain)
1989 Senna (San Marino, Monaco, Mexico)
Undoubtedly there are more but I should get on with some work...
