I'm surprised the new year honours haven't been mentioned, they really don't like motorsport.
I think the recipients were notified months ago. He only wrapped up the title just over 3 weeks ago.You need to win titles to win honours but not all titles win an honour.
Graham Hill wasn't given an OBE until six years after his first F1 WDC, after he had also won the Indy 500. He was also reportedly offered a knighthood in 1975, but didn't live long enough to receive it.
John Surtees had to wait until 2011 to be honoured for his F1 success with an OBE, although he already had an MBE for his motorcycle success in 1959.
James Hunt is the only British WDC not to be receive any official honour, not counting Mike Hawthorn who died so soon after his WDC, before he could be honoured.
Even antipodean champions Jack Brabham, Denny Hulme and Alan Jones received British honours.

I'm extremely happy he won but I think it's a bit wonky for a nation to bestow an honour on a sportsperson if the rest of the world can plainly see they weren't actually the highest talent in the competition.

Tbf, it would be quite amusing to tote up all the posters who were confidently proclaiming that Norris would never beat Piastri earlier in the season (and some were doing so last year even when Norris had a huge points lead over his teammate)........
And the opposite:Hustle_ said:
This is the beginning of Norris turning it around.

Whatever the level of honour, does Lando deserve one yet? I'd say that I was surprised and impressed that he turned it around and lifted the trophy, but he simply wasn't the finest of the competitors this (last..) season.

Does that matter, though? The history books will simply show that he won one of the tightest championships for years.I'm extremely happy he won but I think it's a bit wonky for a nation to bestow an honour on a sportsperson if the rest of the world can plainly see they weren't actually the highest talent in the competition.
History has also shown that winning a major international sporting championship or tournament usually results in a gong of some sort.

Perhaps he will also get the gong... I'm just pointing out that it's somewhat less likely to celebrate a national 'hero' if they're generally acknowledged to have not been the biggest hero in the competition.
Do you think he was the man of the 2025 season?

What a load of rubbish. He had to battle a teamate with equal status and ability. He would have polished of the title ages ago if he had what the others enjoyed.
Indeed, plus it's hard to see how he could have done any better then 1st in the WDC.Wouldn't it be good if there was some sort of points system that determined the best driver, rather than a bunch of journos' vibes and opinions?
Being rated number 1 in Motorsport is worth ZERO points in the WDC.
He’s won 2 WCCs and a WDC. Childhood dream accomplished.

I feel like predictions that he won't get a gong will go the same way as the predictions that he'll never win a title.
Agree, there does seem to be alot dissing Lando on here for the last few years, at the end of the day the history books will mark him as 2025 wdc, not many of us can say that, so yes a gong is deserved. This year would have been to soon as the winners are decided before the end of the F1 season.
I for one am proud to have worked with him in the past, and proud that he is an english man.
Why as a nation are we so quick to knock our great achievers.
Yes he has had daddies money, but who else in modern racing hasnt, but he has worked bloody hard for the title, for most of his life, against better cars and a very good team mate.

I agree. He has come through the ranks quickly and no matter how much money his father has, he’s also got the talent. This year would have been to soon as the winners are decided before the end of the F1 season.

Confirmed that Woking and McLaren will NOT be hosting any events in Woking to celebrate Lando's win.

Bit like Gareth Southgate getting a knighthood for finishing second twice?
If we'd won 9 out of the last 18 world cups then Gareth would have been getting nothing, it's about what is expected to happen vs what happens see Andy Murray and Bradley Wiggins for details, Hamilton's achievements go above and beyond any driver hence the knighthood a British driver winning the WDC isn't extraordinary.
