Paul Di Resta said something interesting after the race in Brazil. Apparently word in the paddock is that all teams are expecting to take a hit in terms of downforce numbers for 2019 due to the new regs- except Red Bull. He implied that Red Bull are seeing similar numbers to this years'.
Because they are the only team not governed by the CFD limits.
You’re going to have to dumb that down for me

I will have a guess for your amusement

‘Not governed by the CFD limits’. Does that mean that;
-they have more computing / engineering resource in aero than other teams
or
-they currently have the potential to run a load more clean downforce which will be unaffected by 2019 changes but choose not to because Tag Heuer
or
-some regulated limit which applies to other teams does not apply to Red Bull or they have a work-around
Who needs CFD when you have an Adrian Newey on staff?

They have a work around, RBT do their aero and they aren’t a listed competitor or entrant so the rules don’t apply to them.
If it was as simple as that then every team would create a subsidiary company to outsource CFD work to, surely?

He was rehashing a report by AMuS who reported that the new rules had done feck all difference. CFD models suggest DF levels for 2019 will be near this years. https://translate.google.co.uk/translate?sl=auto&a...

The current front wings, as complex as they look, are effectively more of an aero plough than just creating DF because things like front wheels producing wake and manipulating airflow down the rest of the car.

Verstappen driving through the choking oil fumes from his new engine for 2019 was a highlight on sunday.

Prediction. RB spend 2019 increasingly moaning about grid penalties on their engine usage and the Honda Board, yet again, fk F1 off and pretend it all never happened.

Red Bull seemed to have the best chassis and aero this year and by some way.
If Honda can get its act together and provide reliable performance somewhere near that of Mercedes and Ferrari they will be in with a real shout.
All depending on Honda then but they are bound to get it right at some point, aren’t they?

Considering they haven't managed that with an F1 engine for getting close to 30 years now, I wouldn't put money on it......

And given Horner's vocal slagging off of Renault in recent years (who are much further up the road than Honda) it will be interesting to see how long the Honda-RB relationship lasts.

I think the cultural gap between RB and Honda as organisations will just be too wide to make it work.

But, you never know, stranger things have happened.

cant really blame Honda as how can you catch up?
You either go faster or the others slow down.
Why can they develop faster than the others who have years of knowledge they are building on.
An engine freeze would have been the solution 4 years ago on everyone but honda.
This is why no new engines are coming in regardless of pundit and expert cobblers.
Its sort of nice to see Honda with a better team after suffering with Mclaren but I doubt they can do much
in the next 2 years.
Maybe podiums with is more than would have happened with Mclaren

Not really as they could be seen as bringing another team down on it's knees. I know McLaren were also at fault but for 3 years everyone blamed Honda

If Honda can’t improve and I don’t see how changing to Redbull guarantees their engines won’t blow up like they have every year where does that leave Redbull? Ferrari and Merc can’t and won’t supply them I doubt they will go back to Renault. Anyone else got a spare reliable engine knocking around? It’s going to be an interesting year I can’t wait to hear some of the Radio messages from Max when he blows up.

Quiting F1 would be my guess.

Well with this news https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-47287386 what does it mean for Honda in F1?

They can't close their only car factory in Europe and then continue to plough billions into an F1 program can they?

I remember last time when the recession of 2008 hit car companies hard and they were the 1st to switch off the F1 funding tap...

It's an interesting point. As far as I can see, they only committed to this year and next with Red Bull. If they did leave, that would leave RBR in something of a predicament.

Don't be silly! Horner will very quickly get a note from a bloke with white hair telling him to blame Chase Carey. hehe

Why not? They aren't closing the plan because they are losing money, they are doing it because they have excess capacity globally and the new EU/Japan trade deal means the can build cars in Japan, with the spare capacity they have in Japan and import them in to the EU tariff free.

Just realised that the factory will close in 2021 and with Honda signed up to the F1 concorde agreement until December 2020 means that they won't sign up to the new one and probably leave then...

Red Bull will definitely need Aston Martin, Audi or Porsche to be ready to sign up to the new 2021 regs then.

Worth bearing in mind that the Honda F1 operation is run out of Milton Keynes, Winter Hill to be precise, which is a small hop skip and jump to the Red Bull building in Tillbrook.

Its a completely separate operation to the Swindon plant.

Honda are in F1 to develop their hybrid tech and showcase themselves around the world. I doubt the UK car plant has anything to do with it.
You wonder what sort of moronic blather came out of pm may and her team when the Japanese pm was in town a few month ago though.
