That's a bit harsh. Poor guy, he's not going to shake that stigma off for the rest of his days in F1, eh?

I am beginning to consider the possibility that Valtteri Bottas could win the 2019 F1 World Championship... ...circumstances and events are unfolding to make him a serious challenger. It could be his year...

Interestingly, Hamilton seemed to be overdriving his car in qually today.

Ok, I know there are so many variables, but Bottas really seems to have a measure of him this year.

It has been stated that Hamilton had a battery issue.

But Hamilton has also stated that Bottas has improved due to having his ex-performance engineer, Riccardo Musconi, as his new race engineer.

Is Bottas starting to get to Hamilton? I hope so as it will make the season a great one.

It’s an amazing turn around after his dysmal year last year - hope he can keep it up for the season nice to see Hamilton have some genuine pressure - won’t be long till he spits his dummy that’s for sure.

Lewis and Bottas will continue to trade blows all season. It’s going to come down to the wire but if I had to put my money on one of them, it would be the guy who has been there and done it 4 times already.

Bottas has shown amazing speed but you can’t just write off Lewis. He knows it is early days and as long as he keeps within a few points he’ll start to turn the screw later in the season. He alluded to this in Baku with the “too nice” comment. I don’t think Lewis is racing Bottas yet, rather being the respectful teammate.

Lewis wouldn’t have enjoyed yesterday’s result one bit. My prediction today? Now Lewis knows ferrari are beaten, If they get a good start it could be a right old ding dong between the 2 Mercedes drivers. He will want to put Bottas ‘back in his place’ as soon as possible

Well that didn’t happen....... wink

Any semblance of a race was over once Bottas was told to ‘look after his tyres’.

As you say, back in his place.

Bottas: It was 'game over' after 'strange' clutch issues at the start
Ben Issatt 12 May 2019 Formula 1

Valtteri Bottas concedes it was "game over" for his Spanish Grand Prix after a problematic start cost him the lead.

It's quite common that being on pole isn't always ideal in Barcelona because of the long run to Turn 1, and so it proved as Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel pulled out either side of the Finn at the start.

Facing a pincer movement, Bottas had to back out and would drop to second behind his Mercedes teammate, where he would continue for the rest of the race.

"It’s honestly very annoying today. I lost it at the start and, looking in the mirror I can say it’s not my fault," he stated afterwards.

"I had some issues with the clutch, some vibrations, which I’ve never had before. That’s why I got away slow. I’m keen to find out what happened.

"There was a strange behaviour with the clutch, it was biting and releasing, biting and releasing, which I never felt before, so I lost it there."

The first of the two of them to DNF will be at a significant disadvantage. Thing is unlike certain other drivers they both realise this hence why they are keeping it clean and backing out of potential race ending situations.

So are Bottas’ title hopes fading fast? He seems to be fast going back to last seasons mindset.
