But not long before it was free it wasn't available at all. Long may we have the choice to pay & watch or not pay & not watch!
That argument doesn't make sense....please please Mr broadcaster you know that program about F! races, you know the one that was free to air.......I must give you my money..... I would rather give you it than save it, spend it on my Kids holliday, Wifes birthday, day out with the girlfriend, that is assuming you can afford pay to view..
I'd rather pay to view than not have it.

Which is why it costs money these days. People just have to have things. It's why people queue for days to get an iPhone or throw money at kickstarter projects. Don't get it myself.

If you can wait a couple of hours all the races will appear on torrent sites.

F1 on BBC wasn't free, it just formed part of what you got from a service you're forced to pay for.

Those days are seriously numbered now, and we can all expect to pay for whatever content we want. Seems fair really!

I do agree F1 is quite pricey though. I watch via now TV and I think the pass for each 3 days of action is £12.99

No it wasn't and still isn't, I did say "free' initially. If your looking at it pragmatically a colour licence is £150 a black and white is £50. a national subscription licence should keep programs cheap. that £12.99 is actually quite dear if you had to pay that over 365 days as it would be £1,580 .........more than 10 times a TV licence. Its why the telco's go for the quad play Phone TV internet, media its loadsa Dosh and we all pay for it.......well you do if you buy in to it.

I really hate to disappoint you guys but there’s no way what so ever that bbc 1 is going to give up bargain hunt, homes under the hammer, songs of praise and pointless and or itv 2, a minions/bond movie on a sunday lunchtime, to show a bit of racing, let alone show the pre show, race, after show, let alone the F2/F3 race and take 8/9 hours of tv time up.

Sky F1 has a place.

BBC could be described as relatively cheap. But it's still not and never has been free.

My Amazon prime subscription is £120 a year, even cheaper than a TV license. If F1 moved to Amazon would you describe it as free?

Fair enough. My point (I work in TV often) is that in the UK there is an odd feeling that BBC is 'free' and better still no adverts! But of course, it's basically the same price as Netflix or Amazon but arguably less flexible in the content it delivers.

The price of sky F1 (in fact all sport channels) is £7.99 a day or £12.99 a week. I pay weekly for each race just so I can see practice and qualifying too. But in principal you can pay £7.99 per race, which is still quite costly but if you're a fan, it's not a lot of money really. It would be good to see sky offer per program access via now TV, rather than 24hr access to the entire sports package. Really each F1 race should be more like £2.99, and if it was, I don't think anyone would care to worry about the price.

I don't want sky, but I do want F1. It's a sport with many British connections and it does irritate me that in the UK we have to sign up to stuff or pay through the nose just to watch. The UK is about the most expensive country to watch an entire season I think!! But it's also the sort of country a company like sky has such power, because sky make it easy to have so much content drip fed to the mind numb massive we seem to produce so many of here wink Everytime I walk through a UK shopping centre I see the sky promo stands, and some overweight chap nodding along to what he's being offered. I know he's thinking that 200 channels will enrich his life... It makes me very sad! That is why I personally prefer the pay as you watch route. Because after 10 years making telly content, I know the vast majority of it isn't worth watching. Not unless you have a very dull life at least.

Sorry, rant over...

Im paying £20 for Sky Sports, which I think is good value for my F1 and Cricket. The rest of it is utter crap.

That will work, as long as it's Windows or Mac.

The lack of coverage is going to have a seriously negative impact on viewing figures. I doubt many who haven’t signed up to Sky already are suddenly going to.

I certainly fall into that camp and I’ve watched F1 pretty religiously since I was a kid.

Looks like it's going to be highlights only for me this year.

Viewing figures in the UK aren't what Rolex, Mercedes, Ferrari etc are after. They're more interested in emerging markets like the Far East & China. Places where people are moving upwards in class and having lots of disposable income. Or trying to appear like they have. Those are the people Vodafone, Mercedes, Rolex and even Philip Morris are aiming at.

It is simple.

The people that owned the sport previously made a decision (one that failed before) that you will have to pay a premium to watch F1. It was their decision, no-one elses, not the teams, sponsors, tv companies.

So by supporting that, you embrace that decision to remove F1 from the household of many, to give it only to those that want to pay for it.

They are the basics of it, and if you can live with that, off you, go, but the precedent you are setting is one you have to live with as that selfish decision has potentially ruined motorsport viewing for hundreds of millions of people in the future. Most of which cannot justify paying for F1 or MotoGP or anything else. Or worse cannot afford it. And who wants to be associated with a sport that does that.

Think about that every month you give 30 quid to a billionaire, why because he told you you had to, not because you really wanted to.

Which billionaire are we giving £30 a month to?

Premier League has flourished with a mix of pay live and free highlights - I don't see F1 being that diferent.

I don't do Sky/subribe tv. So for me 2019 is going to be a no go.

I'm not paying ridiculous amounts to watch streamed either.

When F1 wakes up it'll be declining. I used to love rallying. That's dying in popularity. Now F1.
