If this had come up before Williams signed the deal with Mercedes for gearboxes and so on from '22 I'd be more inclined to think it might happen. With that in place (and only 7 weeks ago) I don't see the Renault thing happening, not even just for drivers.
Before the Mercedes deal then Williams were the best option for Renault with all the other candidates (Alpha T, Alfa R, Haas and RP) already tied to another manufacturer and McL leaving already. They are still Renault's only option unless Sauber break with Ferrari but I don't think it's a realistic option.

Being paid to have a seat filled makes sense to a team knowing the car needs major work.
The owners know all too well the George is likely gone next year so they can either pay a driver or get hold of a good academy driver. Problem is latifi doesn’t have the experience or speed to lead.
What I don’t understand is why they would be looking at running a Renault rookie alongside latifi for 2022 with new regulations.
Guess in conclusion I don’t understand the logic in it if it’s true.

If the Alpine link is correct then it seems logical that Guanyu Zhou will be in the Williams for 2022.
Zhou is one of the stand out second year title favourites for F2 this season (Schwartzman being the other). Alpine junior Lundgaard is also an F2 race winner but probably more of an outsider to win it.
F3 champion Oscar Piastri is also an Alpine junior. He has also moved up to F2 and seems to have the attributes to get to F1. I am looking forward to seeing how he gets on in F2.
The Alpine junior programme does have a strong look about it at the moment, to their credit.
I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a Latifi/Zhou line up for 2022, or even a Zhou/Piastri line up if Piastri has an amazing debut F2 season.
I doubt Williams would worry too much about cutting short the Latifi deal by one year if Alpine showed them enough money in return.

Isn't Latifi Snr putting money into Williams? If so, you can rely on Latifi Jnr still occupying a seat in 2022Zhou is one of the stand out second year title favourites for F2 this season (Schwartzman being the other). AR Launch of the car cancelled as some tt hacked the website & started posting it all over the net. Just announced on Twitter
Not exactly right. They released the app early, with all of the files embedded in it and not encrypted in any way. Somebody just downloaded it and data mined it. That's not hacking, and was just a shoddy bit of app development.
I think they've actually done ok out of it. I bet they're getting far more publicity on social media right now than they would have done if everything had gone smoothly. Perhaps they did it on purpose...

Jesus, hardly a good start to the revival. Who does their tech, the fired fia guy who does redacted pdfs?Somebody just downloaded it and data mined it. That's not hacking, and was just a shoddy bit of app development.

Couple of questions spring to mind:
1) How accurate is the model? Clearly the app has the full 3D model of the car, I wonder if they deliberately changed a few areas to hide detail from other teams? (I'm not suggesting other teams want to 'steal Williams secrets', but it's generally normal in F1 terms to not give your competitors a 3D model of your new car)
2) Why was the app pulled? Some images had already been swiped from it and leaked - but so what? People could still have played around with it as novelty, it could still have been officially activated ahead as part of the original launch plan.
I wonder if the fact the that assets in the app were entirely unprotected led to 11th hour fears there could also be data protection issues?

The publicity would be fine if the livery actually looked decent but it’s not exactly a looker
And yet I've seen far, far more comments on social media saying that it's the best livery of any car for years.....But for the moment, I’ll wait and see who goes the fasterest
