I'm just not so convinced the car in pole will be orange.

I mean 'red'*
Me neither confused
Oh I thought when you said you believed Ferrari were still sand bagging, maybe you were expecting them to pip Mercedes when they reveal their true pace?
There definitely isn't anywhere near eight tenths separating them in my opinion

I think (and hope!) they are going to be right on top of each other come Saturday / Sunday

This is traditionally a Hamilton circuit but for the sake of an exciting season I really hope Ferrari have the pace advantage early on in view of what we are reading about Mercedes having more headroom for development.

I wouldn't mind a repeat of 2018 with Ferrari having the stronger car at the start. I really want a closely contested season. I find the notion that Mercedes have such a big advantage as people are deducing from P2 times a galling prospect!

Hopefully everyone ran a fairly standard Friday practice program, with Ferrari running a higher fuel load than Mercedes, so that come Q3 we still have an exciting shoot-out for pole

I don't really have any particular team loyalty, I just like battles on track - so I feel broadly the same. However it plays out, I'm hopeful it will be very tight between the top teams.

I'm definitely a fan of the sport rather than a fan of a certain team or driver. Although I definitely like some teams and drivers more than others..

I just don't want Mercedes to dominate again. They have won 5 times in a row, enough is enough IMO. Fans including myself want some competition, not a single team/driver winning all the time. It reminds me of the Schumi era, it was boring as hell. Go Kimi biggrin

I’m on site here in Melbourne, been to loads of events and met loads of interesting people so far, amazing place. I’ve got loads of pics and videos from yesterday and I’m in the paddock all day today. The conversations we had yesterday suggest Ferrari are surprised.

One thing I did see that upset me was seeing Claire Williams very very distressed.

Looking forward to the start of the season tomorrow. I will be up bright and early for qualifying.

Lots of changes to look forward to and hopefully a decent opener, setting the scene for the rest of the first half.

Sorry to hear Claire williams was quite distressed, hopefully Williams sees some brightness but that cannot be a pleasant pit to be in just now.

Excited for Sauber\Alfa Romeo this year though.

I can't see Ferrari sandbagging by nearly 1 second but we will see. The other thing people don't seem to consider is Merc may be too.........

But the fact is we will only see the true pace tomorrow during Quali...

We want no depressing thoughts like that, thank you very much.

I can get sandbagging in pre-season, there’s plenty of time for development, changes etc, but at this stage of the game? Doesn’t make much sense to me I’m afraid.

I think the Fezza is quicker than this showing, but also suspect Merc always was a little bit better than preseason indicated for one reason or another.

I’m sat watching some coverage on Sky sports from today. Jesus H Christ, it’s like watching a bunch of kids at the kart track inventing new ways to stuff their steeds into the weeds.

On the flip side, I can’t see Mercedes leading ferrari by 8/10ths and Red Bull being second either...

It’s good to see Di Resta’s input though. He’s a class act in my opinion.

If what I’ve been told is right, Ferrari are going to be further back than that. This track will lay any deficiencies bare.

Interesting article on the BBC website

Thats a good read. I think I just about followed it!

We should get more like that as fans.
Agreed, well done to whoever got that onto the BBC website, and thanks to the poster above who shared it. Fascinating stuff and well written.
An article that doesn’t treat its readership as morons - more please Beeb.

To translate, it does say there could be a chassis change for Max's car, and if there is, there would be no penalty.

I don't get to watch F1 too much so looking forward to this weekend smile

I hate that. See the Williams thread for my wider views - but in short she does not deserve to feel that way. This wasn't a job she undertook, it was an unworkable situation she inherited.

She's absolutely not team principal material but you can see how much she cares. Of course she cares.

I think we can be fairly sure it wasn't written by someone from the Ferarri aerodynamics department though smile
