Tricky - would that be based on which country owns the team or which country the team are in?

Mercedes: German team, staffed chiefly by British people in Britain and lead by an Austrian. Very tricky!
I think it would have to be the flag under which the team races rather than where they live. Otherwise Monaco would probably be at the top of the driver charts!

Probably post 2020, but it looks like Racing Point could become Aston Martin in the future, if the latest speculation is to be believed.

All sounds very plausible. Especially as it could help RP whilst simultaneously pinching a sponsor from RB.

Not sure how much I care about seeing Aston Martin in F1 these days though, it's a bit of a shame to see the cars have become little more than re-packaged Merc AMG's.

I was always a big fan of Force India, they were my favourite underdog. However I have been going off them since the money man got involved and used the team to gift his charmless son a guaranteed seat for as long as he cares to persevere.

I have sprung to Stroll's defense before, he was fast tracked into F1 and arrived 'raw' to say the least. His junior series performances look creditable on paper.

I've given him the benefit of the doubt for three seasons but I must finally concede that everybody else was right and he is simply not an F1 caliber driver and by the looks of it, never will be.

Someone is going to say that there have always been pay drivers and I realise that, but the fact that Stroll and his consortium have actually bought a historic team sits very uncomfortably with me. How demonstrably st and for how long does Lance have to be to get dropped by his own Dad and his cronies- and where are Force India by the end of that?

Latifi does not have as good a record as Stroll (although appears to at least have a better attitude), and this Nissany bloke- Christ Almighty. I hope to god that he doesn't have $15m and a reasonable shot at a Superlicence. There is enough Williams bashing on these forums but if Nissany gets a race drive I will have to conclude that Williams isn't an F1 team but the 'rich boy's F1 experience'. Want you or your kid to have the ultimate plaything this Christmas? Have $15m? Sign up to a one year world tour and find out what it might be like to be a credible F1 driver with the Williams F1 experience!

Yes, Ticktum appears to be somewhat deranged but at least he has a talent.

Agree with all of that pretty much, except the Williams bashing... Other than a few jokes about their admittedly quite comical car, most of what I read is more concern/frustration from their fans - myself included.

Sad fact is though, right now they're stuck and simply have to survive until they get proper investment from somewhere. At present if they can sell a seat, they should. Might make them a joke today but long term, there is plenty of talent in the team and those hard working people will hopefully get a chance to shine again.

Not bashing, just trying to be realistic - not least to manage my own expectations of their immediate future..

Racing Point is really a Spyker in my mind, so not sure I want Aston Martin written on it.

They shouldn't have a funding issue as such. Even Robert Kubica who is thoroughly disillusioned with the whole outfit said recently that catching up with the mid-pack should be an obtainable target in the short term.

Williams have kept pace with development this season. They end the season with a similar deficit to that with which they started it.

They should no doubt improve further in to and during next year, they have the technical expertise to continue to find improvements for sure.

But the reason they have sufficient funding to maintain the entire team costs is because they have in various ways sold access in to F1 for the last two years.

Of course none of that takes in to account the fact they also need to design a bottom up new car next year for 2021. Personally I think that's going to be impossible without extra income, but let's see..

Easy new name change that won't need permission "Aston Martin Racing."

I wonder how long that has been planed if so.

Yup, it's all pointless these days. Brands as brands, no engineering connection, no substance... But that's frankly their business. And what Lawrence does with his dollar is frankly his business.

Christ knows it's fraught enough trying to keep 10 teams in F1 these days! Let's not complain too much if some pompous arse buys a team to give his son a seat.. at least the team remains and I personally don't mind if he also 'saves' Aston Martin from becoming another bonafide Mercedes sub brand.

Tick tick, world carries on smile

Excuse me! Here you see a Spyker leading a GP from a Ferrari and a Mclaren-Mercedes. Don’t recall that from Racing Point, Force India or Midland (I confess I own a Spyker!).

And the team won four GPs before that as Jordan. It's been all downhill since then.

Fisichella led the 2009 Belgian GP in a Force India (and finished second) after qualifying on pole ...

As well a most of the drivers, the Pirelli tyres in 2020 will be the same as 2019. After the Abu Dhabi tyre tests, the 2020 new spec tyres have been rejected. https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/pirelli-tyre-20...

HAAS so rarely manage to get the tyres on to the car during a pit stop I'm surprised they have an opinion either way biggrin
