Really hehe the guys got 32 wins, half of which Kimi ran the car into the ground and gifted the win, the other half of his wins Kimi went into retirement, then Lewis and Seb turned up.

To be fair he’s had 5 decent stabs at a WDC in a leading car and got 2... no one can take that away.
And was Alonso in the best car during that 5 decent stabs? No.

He hasn't had the luxury of the best car on the grid for 5 years straight.

I agree with most of what you say, with the exception of 2007. Hamilton should have been WDC that year, the China fiasco by the team cost him the title.
He made a stupid mistake entering the pits and landed in the gravel. Rookie mistake by a rookie.

But there is no way Mclaren were treating both drivers equally after the massive fall out.

Alonso, Hamilton and McLaren shot themselves in the foot in 2007.
It had been raining but track dried out put the pit lane slip road hadn’t. His tyres where well finished as he’d been left out too long. That’s the story, I was there.

As for Fred, so good that no one wants him.

Indeed. Hamilton was pleading with the team to pit but they kept overruling him, telling him to stay out as they knew that stopping so early would have meant another stop later in the race that they were keen to avoid.

You can see here that his tyres had no tread on them at all and his fronts weren't much better.

Too good no one wants him.

He would give any main driver in a top team a very hard time and this is why the main teams want to protect their main driver.

2007 he was up against Hamilton and McLaren yet he still finished on equal points as Hamilton.

Just imagine if the team had been looking after both drivers.

Not this drivel again...

If McLaren turned on Alonso; it was his own doing - for being so shook by a rookie matching / threatening him.

I mean, you say that he equaled rookie Hamilton on points; like that’s an achievement. Hamilton no less; who’s rubbish really.

hehe

I like this quote from Adrian Newey:

“Fernando’s ability often exceeds the car in his hands. I think that’s the mark of a truly great driver — the ability to stand out despite not having a great car.”

well who has?

2005, 2006, 2007, (should have had a championship drive in 2008, but not let us get a 100m USD fine get in the way)

2010, LEADING the WDC bottled it and followed Petrov around Abu Dhabi..

2012. Had a 40 point lead at the summer break.. did not finish it off..

so long as he's making claims and trying to generate speculation sadly trying to be relevant he counts for the silly season thread no?

Let’s put him in his place smile

The promising good driver that didn’t quite make it into the all time greats hall of fame and pi$$ed of a few people along the way that is the “Fernando Alonso” thread.

Fernado Alonso is a super driver not mystic meg.
Some drivers just get lucky when a car comes good. Vettel, button, hill, hamilton and sometimes even schumi.
After the Mclaren debacle due to too much Ron being a smart alec he missed the chance of a few more titles there.
He eventually wound up at Ferrari for 5 years where he most times if not all the time finished ahead of Mclaren and Lewis in the title race. A lot of F1 fans have very poor memories with that fact.
So he made a better choice than staying at mclaren.
Going back to the backmarker dross world of mclaren/honda was the incredibly stupid thing he did.
Its the dumb public and media that drive a lot of the stories like the one where he would jump back into the mclaren now its slightly better.
I think he has figured out they are a midfield team now at last.

Fernando Alonso. Great driver, terrible person.

I don’t wish many to fail but he’s one.

...
That makes no sense to me. Why would any Formula 1 team want to protect their current driver by keeping a faster driver out of their car?

Advantages of signing the better driver:
1) They will get better results
2) The better driver doesn't join another team and become their competition

Disadvantages of signing the better driver:
???
