Can teams get new tub designs FIA crash-tested mid-season?

For those who partake of satellite telly, Jenson Button will be joining the Sky Sports team for this race weekend.
That's excellent news, no Rosberg!
Why you all hate Rosberg so much? Because he beat this guy? biggrin

Very interesting weekend ahead IMO as it'll be a good indicator of how the rest of the season might pan out.

If Ferrari turn up running as everyone expected after testing we really could have a belter of a year ahead of us! I'd love it if for the rest of the season we were watching Hamilton and Bottas swap the lead of the WDC every race whilst Vettel and LeClerc slowly play catch up with all four still being in contention right up until the last race or two.

Because he shows off by levitating.

Also, this moment in 2014 will forever remain suspect: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3-D_6Tygls

Do we think Merc still have the ability in pocket to turn up the wick? I find it hard to believe that they will have been going flat out when relatively unchallenged by Ferrari. I reckon they will likely still have something to counter any performance improvement that the new Fez engine gives.

Strong performances needed from Renault (since they have been utter st so far), Haas (likewise), Gasly (to get some confidence back from the strong performance he should have bagged at Baku) and Leclerc (to get his confidence back to full performance) here.

In reality, I'll just be happy if Bottas finishes infront of Lewis. I just don't see a real Merc vs Ferrari battle happening this year so I hope the points between team mates stays close.
Really, why would you want that?

I agree with this train of thought too. I think Lewis has the psychological advantage over Bottas so if VB can pull ahead now it would keep the rest of the season interesting rather than a run away.

Because it's fun to see someone give a world champ a run for their money. The whole support the underdog thing.

Exactly the same reason it'd be nice for Ferrari to be a bit faster. It'd make it a competition not a foregone conclusion.

Bottas is ahead - surely to Lee it close you’d want both drivers trading wins?

Horner says it will only be a subtle update for RBR.

Personally I think we're likely to end up with a closer, more exciting, finalle to the season if Bottas somehow builds a significant advantage early on. I think ideal from the point of view of the drivers' championship (assuming Mercedes continue their dominance and no-one outside the team gets a look-in) would be Bottas about 40-50 points ahead at the summer break.

I thought it was Lewis 5 - Bottas 0. It'd be fun to see it Lewis 5 - Bottas 1 would it not?

I think he is referring to World Championships as opposed to this season's points / wins.

This time tomorrow P1 will be underway, no doubt with Ferrari setting the fastest times, leading to a short but jubilant reprise for the forums Tifosi.

Anyone got an specific predictions?

I think it's likely to be a LH win here, although Red Bull seem quietly confident and appear to be down-playing their updates, perhaps they have something they have been waiting to return to Spain with.

I think Ferrari with their new PU will probably run very well, but in the end the tyre issues likely remain, and a small question mark over reliability. As ever this season, I think they'll be sufficiently quick but let down by some other area of their car/race/team. I wouldn't mind seeing them take a strong podium finish, or especially, Leclerc a win though. I'm just not overly optimistic.

New Ferrari style from wings for Toro Rosso and McLaren to be seen in FP1.

New Bargeboards on the Merc and McLaren.

Ferrari expected to take new ICE & MGUk/h & have redesigned the Shark Fin cover (cooling?)...

Hass and Alfa to run old engines.

New motor homes for Hass Redbull and Racing .

Rumours are that racing . & Mercedes will have a closer partnership and working relationship (more than drive train), with perhaps parts/designs being shared... hmmm
