Rich Energy drop Haas. No...Really. Seriously...
Discussion
Ordered a box of 3 cans from eBay last week, more for the souvenir than anything else. Came packaged literally in a chunk of cardboard roughly wrapped around 3 bare cans with tape.
Decided to try a can, why not. I periodically drink quite a few energy drinks, different brands and all sorts, it's a drink type I usually enjoy. Rich Energy, to me, tastes uncannily like Red Bull. The closest 'imitator' I've ever tasted, I don't think I would be able to separate them in a blind taste. People saying it tastes like ass probably don't really like any energy drinks. Normally each brand has its own slightly unique taste, but RE is very, very close to RB. Almost weirdly so...

I found its the aftertaste on RE that separates it from RB. Decided to try a can, why not. Also, Canned drinks from amazon generally come in a cardboard base with cellophane/plastic top. Used to get 24 cans of RB a month which came exactly the same.

I didn't even really notice any different aftertaste either, but I was drinking it on the side with food. Also, Canned drinks from amazon generally come in a cardboard base with cellophane/plastic top. Used to get 24 cans of RB a month which came exactly the same.
No cardboard base or plastic. Literally 3 loose cans wrapped in a random strip of cardboard.
No new developments. It seems William Storey is no longer in control of the twitter account though, the latest tweets have been much more sensible and don't seem to have the same hallmarks as Billy boy.
BDG will still be winding up Lightening Volt nee RE Ltd and will have no further part in any sales, communications or sponsorship. They exist to close businesses, that's it. The other shareholders seem to have created a new RE Ltd brand, registered in the same surname as one of the lead investors, out of control of Billy boy. They also seem to be communicating with Haas to take over the sponsorship deal. All signs point to them still wanting to continue the brand and sponsorship.
No new news regarding court cases. At this point Billy seems to have ran away. Whyte will probably never get their money. Haas will probably just continue the deal with the new people running the show so their owings from Billy will be likely ignored. Billy will get away scott free I'd say. Any money he actually has will be in different accounts not directly linked to him. Officially, he probably has no money to pay any fines.
I don't think we'll hear any more significant news until whatever Haas decide over the summer break, since the original deal has been paid up until then. If they negotiate a continuation then things will carry on as 'normal'.

I think it was the video of Chris Harris drinking it, he said the only difference in the ingredients was RE using artificial sweetener instead of the sugar that Red Bull use. RE do it to get around the sugar taxation.
That's the main difference, and it is all about sugar tax - which is weird as the tax just increases the cost per can to the consumer, and you would think a 'premium' drink wouldn't want to substitute such a key ingredient for the sake of saving their premium customers a few pennies... Anyway, all the sugar substitutes leave a poor taste in my mouth - and a less well rounded initial taste too. Some people seem weirdly not to notice the difference. This is why some people swear Diet Coke tastes just as good as the real thing (nope...).
I assume the basic idea of RE was to try and mimic the market leader, but avoid the sugar tax = a cheaper drink and some market share as a result. Tbh I could just about see that working, it has worked for other brands to a degree. But not this time lol, the whole thing couldn't have been a bigger cock-up.

Not to mention what it's doing to your insides. Sugar has it's own issues yes, but it isn't blowing microscopic holes in to your colon like some of the other sweeteners are. Andy S15 said:

Smells like RB and tastes like flat RB spiked with lemon. As another poster pointed out, then gives you a dry mouth.
Not nice.

Personally, if it was actually available off the shelf, I'd certainly buy it. I liked it enough to drink it again if it was a bit cheaper than Red Bull.
Aren't they trying to make it "premium" (ergo presumably more expensive) by writing "premium" at the start of everything, though? Maybe, that was just a lame Storey strategy to explain its lack of availabilitySurely we can finally conclude that the energy drink was indeed a front for something else- which is why they have produced so few cans, exhibiting pre-production levels of QC, and haven't opened any distribution lines via major retailers such that a consumer may actually be able to walk in a shop today and buy a can?

It being a money laundering scheme was called out very early on, especially with Reddit investigations... however - Not that I like defending RE, but I'd call Amazon EU a "distribution lines via major retailers". I'd say Amazon EU has more throughput then it would get in any one supermarket, especially when you think about the continent. Actual customer reach is much larger than say if they put it in waitrose, (it is up market/premium only you know etc...).

But I could st in a box and get lt listed on ebay and amazon with no barriers to entry at-all. My same turd in a box wouldn't pass the sniff test (commercially and physically) with any high street retailer. Gassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
