Marino Sato walked away, but no news on the others yet - https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/motor-racing/f...

That's what I thought, one of the cars was torn in half on impact, and the other car has major front end damage, hope the drivers are OK.

I've watched it back very slowly and I'm not sure that Hubert will be okay... I think it'll be a miracle if he's still alive to be honest... frown

Hate to be all doom and gloom, but when I first saw it I thought, "hmm, doesn't look too bad, the safety cell and firewall are still intact".

Having looked over it again a few times I think the firewall and halo have remained largely intact, BUT it looks like its physically shifted forwards. Like the central spar has broken at the bottom where it attaches to the scuttle.

There's on particular still that I wont share on here (theres a similar one online that can be viewed if you search it out) as it's quite upsetting if you look at it carefully and look at how the driver is positioned. But essentially it looks real bad.

That looks very worrying. Hopefully they are ok.

Really hoping for a positive outcome for the drivers involved.

I've seen some horrendous crashes in IndyCar, that have looked unsurvivable, but the drivers have been barely injured. A lot of care is taken with the immediate care and extraction procedures, hence the news blackout.

I'd be amazed but happy if both drivers get out of this ok.

Just watched the Sun video from a different angle, one of the cars took a side impact at what looked like full speed coming out of the top of Eau Rouge, that looked horrific.

That's exactly what happed. Hubert lost control of his car and skipped across the grass and hit the barrier at high speed. A bad accident in it's own right, but the safety features and barriers did their job and he would've been fine... BUT...

He rebounded back onto the track in a carcass (where all of the energy absorbing bits that can fly off have already done so) and gets T-Boned by another car that's flat out (at probably 180mph).

Horrible news rip

Also from the footage, it appears that alesi lost control up eau rouge, then Hubert’s hit the back off him and headed into the barrier

Must be quite hard for the Hubert’s family to not only have lost him, but due to someone else’s mistake/misfortune, that’s motor racing unfortunately

Horrible news, the crash looked awful. So unlucky to hit the barriers and then end up back on track to be hit at a very high speed by another car.

Sobering reminder of how dangerous motorsport is.

Shocking. It didn’t look good from first view.

RIP to an up and coming talent.

A sad day, I'm not sure any amount of protection would have helped in that instance. Being Tboned in a car that's already been crashed is just about the worst possible accident you could think of. Thoughts are with his family.

Let's also not forget Correa. The impact to his car was apparently so bad is feet/legs were sticking out of the overturned car, trapping him in there, so his extraction was complex. Hopefully his feet/legs can be saved. At least he has his life.
