Hi Everyone!
I'm completely, utterly new here, and I've never posted in any of these threads before.
I like Jaguars, and learning lots of interesting facts about them.
Looking forward to making new friends and sharing lots of fun information about interior trim, paint codes and the like.

Well that was annoying. Typed all the below, but it wouldn’t post as the volume had closed. Anyway, onward & upward. Vol15:
As far as my stuff goes, I am finally on holiday. Took the 7 down to Chelmsford on Sunday so that I could pick up SL 2 from my sisters place and get it to the shippers finally to get it out to Cyprus. She hadn’t been using it of course, so the battery was deader than a dead thing. New battery (cheap compared to the one in the 7) at 850ah & £121 from Tayna delivered & started first turn of the key. Spent about 10 minutes on demist though, it’s had enough time to sit and get damp in the rain, before trundling off to Enfield and it’s now on it’s way (don’t know exactly when yet), but I will be off to CY to pick it up & enjoy in the near future. At which point I shall bore you all with photos of an SL in the sun...
The 7 reminded me of many things on the journey. It’s really, really good at doing distance with nary a pain or twinge to my old, decrepit body, it still surprises people in many a car who don’t know what it is, but really don’t want to admit it might be a bit quick, I finally got to the front of an endless chain of artics overtaking a crane, and had a completely clear stretch for 9 miles, to bring it back to thread relevance, the noisiest thing at an indicated 140 is... the sodding sunroof!
The M6 hasn’t moved all month, but the filters, etc arrived at the weekend so I can service it. 10w/60 oil ain’t cheap though, but man-maths made me buy 60l in bulk, which will probably do me for the next 6 years. Oh well. Gear changes are getting worse too. I suspect it needs a new bearing on the SMG clutch, which probably means a new clutch too. I could probably buy a nice barge for what that will cost.
Then I took SL 1 out last night, it appears to have a slight misfire once warmed through, no doubt it’s condensation in the dizzys, will have a look later, weather permitting.
Oh, and for years, my default plan for getting to Chelmsford from Rochdale has been M62>A1>A14/M11>A120. The amount of idiots, tailgaters & just plain obstinate people queueing because there’s a truck 3 miles ahead to overtake means that the A1 is no longer fit for purpose. Sure, you get good stretches where you can test for sunroof noise, but I think overall I’d have been just as quick & considerably less frustrated using the M1. Two lanes just don’t cut it any more. /rant.

That w124 300E 24 is top hole.
Don’t talk to me about failure to proceed, the ignition barrel in my 190 has started playing silly buggers and is on the cusp of leaving me stranded somewhere. I’m spending a lot of time parking such that a low loader could recover me if necessary; it doesn’t help ones anxiety levels. New barrel I order from MB, it can’t come soon enough.

I'm just popping this in here, again, because, at achievable haggle at top thread, and with 270 oily horses, I can't stop thinking that this would make a great bargesque cruiser.

"the manual conversion is quirky and must be seen and driven"
If it was done right and with Pentas in silver and was a touch lower, it would be incredible.

Is this one of those thread in-jokes? I do hope in time to understand that kind of thing and be included in the jolly japes.
R129! Sensational way to fill an empty drive space, what will it replace?
Re tyres, Yokohama Geolanders are pretty good. Although my 300GE doesn't have anywhere near the "performance" of a modern 350d they're a good all round tyre and have very good winter / off road capabilities. I don't mind the grey wheels but the tints would have to go and I agree wholeheartedly with your plans to gingicate and remove the chrome from the grille.
