There's an interview with Hamilton in The Times where he talks of his contract negotiations.

It also mentioned, almost in passing, that Wolff would not be at the Brazil race.

Made me think that there was some connection. It came as little surprise. If they win the WCC next year they'll make the longest run in F1, beating Ferrari's 6. I don't know if such records are important to them, but it might give Merc an opportunity to leave the sport with a reason.
I agree, thats when they'll walk away, they've broken so many records and won the lot but theres just one more record to get, after that yes I could see them walking away happy in the knowledge that all records will stand for many many years, the Penske link just seems to fit hand in glove to me, they have the name, the backing, they'll inherit a world class team, staff and facilities, they'll get Merc engines

Shame they have as much power as a washing machine. The AMGs are hugely powerful and utterly reliable.

I’m in the “not on 6 titles” camp. One more with HAM and they’ve beaten everything, I just can’t imagine why you wouldn’t want to go for it.

We have seen Haas come in with very a respectable reputation and not do much as its another level from USA racing.
Mercedes is a sum of its parts and the way everybody works and they love it. There is no reason to assume this team of people will stay together as the offers from other teams could be taken up once the spell is broken.
Could consign them to just another top 4 runner very fast.

So the rumour goes anyway according to German Auto Bild, could well be true, I also think there's more to it that Toto hasn't come to Brazil when he's never missed a race weekend since becoming a principle, personally I think he's back at Stuttgart being told we aren't offering Lewis a contract and you need to start looking for another job
Yes because Roger Penske literally cannot was until Monday and MUST see Toto this weekend, all weekend. RP is a pure racer, why would he demand a meeting on the weekend of a race?? Its nonsense. Im sure Toto has his reasons. Selling his share to Rp this weekend isnt one of them

If this is real it's probably for 2021 with the new regs, the 2020 car will be well along the way by now and Lewis and Valtteri are signed for 2020. 2021 though, Mercedes team out and become an engine supplier, McLaren becomes the no1 Mercedes powered customer team. They are best of the rest as it is without Mercedes engines.

Lando to win the 2021 championship wink .

Although I can't find an auto bild translation I don't think they mention anything about Toto meeting RP never mind meeting in Stuttgart, I only mentioned Stuttgart because personally thats where I think Toto is meeting the Daimler board instead of being in Brazil

Maybe he is buying Niki’s share in the team. Perhaps Toto was trusted to find the most appropriate buyer? Or did they just go to Nikis estate and a silent shareholder?

Mercedes need some succession plan in case Toto leaves?

Seems like a lot of people putting 2 and 2 together to make 15 here....

Rumour is that Wolff is going to work for F1 itself, no mention of flogging the team.

There’s a chance, like any manufacturer, that they’ll pull out but I can’t see anything suggesting that at the moment

Kimi.
Didn’t he stop racing a few years ago for Merc and retire entirely
What nonsense are you talking today ?

Kimi has never raced for Mercedes ,he did race for McLaren Mercedes.

He did go rallying for a bit .

He's driving for Alfa Romeo currently.

confused

I haven't seen a lot of people suggesting that they will sell. Just a lot of people pointing out that 'if' they were looking to exit F1 it almost certainly wouldn't be until next year was done. Which is fair enough, logical and would be reasonable to conclude even without these latest rumours.

I typed the above from memory ,now after consulting Wikipedia ,I don't see any mention of Merc junior team.

I know he made a quantum leap from junior formulae straight to F1.

If Woolf worked for F1 in some capacity, it would be incompatible with his ownership of the team.

My best guess is that the Mercedes board will have agreed to cease being a team owner from 2021 and will look to conclude a sale of the team ASAP so they can hand over seamlessly during next season (where they compete as a Mercedes owned team). Woolf's share to possibly sell ASAP to the eventual buyer of the whole team, prior to completion of the full outfit.

Hamilton and Vettel to swap places for 2021.
