Grand Prix 1933, including the "new" Donington Park circuit, and the tragic Campari, killed in his final race before he planned to devote more time to his other great loves - grand opera and great food! (He was, let's say, a man of size)...

Note the name of the director - Bill Mason. He's the father of Pink Floyd drummer, Nick Mason.

British Pathe News have some nice good quality coverage, this is Le Mans 1963 in colour covering the debut of the Rover-BRM gas turbine car driven by Graham Hill and Ritchie Ginther. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78sLkGgudz4

If any of you old chaps ( biggrin ) are ever near Bourne, Lincolnshire, here is a place to visit: https://hallandhall.net/Home/About

They're pretty much the neighbours of my workshop and it's a nice distraction once in a while to hear them fire something up. This place is run by ex BRM employees and I think there is connection between at least one of the owners, being a former shareholder in BRM.

An appointment is needed to ensure you're not a complete time-waster to view the stock and workshop, but of course if you're a true BRM enthusiast, being pleasant and asking nicely will probably be sufficient wink

And ERA before that. Bourne was the home town of the founder of both organisations, Raymond Mays.

Back in 72 I was returning from the GP at Brands in my mate's dad's badass Marina TC and we were overtaken by a low loader Transit en route to Bourne with a Marlboro liveried BRM P160 on the back .In 2019, I doubt if even Lewis's dog walker's PR team had to suffer the indignity of a mere Transit ...

Yep. The town's not much of anything special today at all but for a time in F1 it was a bit of a hub.

Nothing ever really disappears of course, there are lots of specialist auto repair and rebuild type workshops around the place, no doubt most set up by former BRM employees and most likely still using former BRM tools and kit! A lot of old F1 cars still turn up in transporters and get dropped off at various places to have whatever work they need carried out. My immediate business neighbour nearly always seems to have an old F1 car in his auto body shop.

I think the real indignity would be being overtaken by a transit low loader whilst driving a Marina TC! laugh

Thank you.

I'm afraid I'm nowhere near old enough to qualify, but still very interested. smile

My girlfriend's parents live under 200 yards from them, and I had no idea it was there! Should make future visits to the inlaws a much more pleasant experience ... whistle

"Yes dear, we should definitely go see your parents - it'd be great for you to spend more time with them ............ What? Don't worry about me, I'll drop you off and just kick my heels until you're ready to be collected."

I'm sure they'll let you in once you've explained the only alternative is you have to visit your in laws!

Let's face it, there isn't a whole lot else to see and do in Bourne... I don't live there personally, just have the workshop over there. The current talk of the town is rumours of a weather spoons opening, everyone's very excited about that..

It's well worth hunting out the "old" circuit and taking a look at the Masta Kink too. Flat out in a 917...
Read a Denis Jenkinson article years ago when he described a trip round the "old" circuit in a bus/coach and he couldn't belive that the F1 cars took the kink flat out whereas the coach had to brake for what he descibed as a "corner" rather than a "kink"
