They should let this season go, the talk of 3 weekends on 1 off is crazy, it would be torture for the poor pack up crews.

Call it a draw & maybe do a few exhibition races towards the end of the season

Ross Brawn apparently said earlier this week that there could be an 8 race calendar if they start in October.

Straws clutching at.
I think it's more a case of trying to keep hope alive.

As others have pointed out, it's the championship that makes the money (or, rather, apportions the money to the teams) so there's probably enormous pressure to have a championship of some sort. Indeed, teams might not even bother turning up to exhibition races as they might consider them pointless and uneconomic.

There is a lot of bullst you could cut from the setup to make it less work. Even if they didn't cut any of the froth, it will be manageable as they have crew that do the garage prep and hostility centre setup, these are not the mechanics/engineers, they are contractors who would welcome the income.

so multi million pound company renault furloghed it's f1 staff, could they not have sold a motorhome or an old trophy or old f1 car instead of us uk tax payer keeping them going into season starts?

seems a few other teams are doing it also.... although they are smaller teams....

anyone else feel this doesn't sit right given its a global manufacture?

because any government hand out of actually taking money out of the system that supports the nhs, and the money comes from tax coming from nhs workers pockets

it ain't free

I presume you haven't availed yourself of any government financial assistance then?

Anyone who thinks this furlough "free money" won't be recovered and then some through future taxes all of us will pay over many, many years is living in cloud cuckoo land. Those Renault workers are UK taxpayers too, just like NHS workers and pretty much every other ordinary tax paying worker in the country.

Protecting jobs now with massive furlough payouts protects future jobs and tax income compounded over many years to come.

I'm struggling to see how it's taking money out of the pockets of NHS workers in particular really.

But there are many multi-million pound companies that are furloghing staff. Where do yo draw the line that is the problem.

I have no issue with any UK based team furloughing staff.

I do have an issue with Companies like Travis Perkins closing when they should be open, causing problems for everyone further down the supply chain.

Problem is people always seem to struggle with large figures. I've lost count of the number of posts I've seen on social media saying "its disgusting that company X is furloughing it's staff. They had £1b turnover last year". What they completely failed to recognise is that company X has thousands of staff and the wage bill, rent, insurance, payments on equipment etc etc come to a few million short of £1b. Those costs don't go away and there's nothing coming in. Turnover is an absolutely meaningless figure in this situation but people carrying on quoting it.

Also, the only other option is to means test it, but that just isn’t practicable. It would take a workforce far in excess of what the civil service has just to process the claims. Not to mention the fact they are also suffering from staff shortages and a huge excess of work. The only realistic option was to give it to everyone who applied.

I agree with this- without govt support that lack of cashflow would end many large companies. My issue with Renault F1 is that its owned by Renault, itself owned by the French Govt- that doesn't seem right
