Schumacher Jr linked to 2021 Haas F1 drive
American team will have fresh line-up next year, with Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen leaving

The Haas Formula 1 team will have an entirely new driver line-up next season, with Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen both leaving the squad – and Formula 2 championship leader Mick Schumacher linked to the team.

Haas has been contemplating several options for next year, including experienced Mexican racer Sergio Pérez, who has lost his seat with Racing Point for 2021 (when it will be rebranded as Aston Martin). Pérez has also been linked with a switch to Williams, at the expense of talented British racer George Russell. Russian Formula 2 race winner Nikita Mazepin is strongly in contention as well.
Schumacher, the son of seven-time world champion Michael, is also under consideration. Haas has strong links with technical partner Ferrari, and the 21-year-old is a member of the Italian firm’s junior driver scheme. He had been linked to a drive with Alfa Romeo, but it's expected that Antonio Giovinazzi will remain at that team.

Racing Veteran Jan Magnussen Blasts Haas F1 Team After Ouster of his Son
Haas F1 drivers Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean told they will not return to team in 2021.
BY GLOBAL MOTORSPORTS MEDIA

"It's a pity that it has got to this in Formula 1," Jan Magnussen told Danish media outlet BT newspaper. "Of course I don't think it's fair. This decision about Kevin has nothing to do with his ability or what he did on the track."

Totally agree with Magnusson's old man if this decision was based on Kevin's driving ability he would have been fired years ago

Got to agree. The Netflix series, whilst hugely entertaining, didn't do Magnussen any favours. Or Grosjean and Steiner. Magnussen especially though just came across as unjustifiably arrogant but without on track performances to back it up.

Haas F1 Team Principal Coy About Who Will Drive for Team in 2021

lf Haas F1 Team has picked its drivers for 2021, principal Guenther Steiner is certainly not saying.

Speculation is that the team is going to run with a pair of well-funded Formula 1 rookies next year: Ferrari Junior Academy driver Mick Schumacher (seven-time champion Michael's son) and Nikita Mazepin (dad is Russian billionaire Dmitry Mazepin). Schumacher, 21, is the current Formula 2 points leader, while Mazepin, 21, is sixth with one race weekend left in the season.

"We will try to announce as soon as possible who our drivers are so we stop this guessing," Steiner said on Friday in Portugal. "But we are not at that point because we haven’t got signed contracts yet, so it would be no point to say something. If it doesn’t happen, then you have to again explain it.

Formula 1 2020: Haas may choose two rookies for new line-up next season, says boss Gunther Steiner

Gunther Steiner added the team had not made any decisions on a replacement driver line-up
Agence France-Presse October 22, 2020 22:12:45 IST

Paris: Team chief Gunther Steiner said on Thursday Haas may choose two rookies to replace departing drivers Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen, but they will take their time to decide.

Guenther Steiner feels two new drivers in 2022 was too 'risky'

Haas Team Principal Guenther Steiner hopes having two new drivers in 2021 will help the team prepare for the new regulation changes in 2022 as the drivers will have had an "interim year" to settle in.

2020 Portugal GP: Haas F1 Formula One F1 Race Recap

“We started on the hard tires to make sure we were the last car to box. We were going for luck, hoping for rain, a safety car, red flag or virtual safety car – something like that.."

Reminds me of when I was learning to play pool in a pub and a guy looked at me hopelessly smashing in to a pack of balls - shouted over "typical youth, hit and hope". Which appears to be Haas's race strategy smile

9th in WCC on a grid that has a modern Williams on it is basically last. Can't help but think that with different leadership a tiny bit more should be possible. Especially vs Alfa. This season and last Alfa have more or less doubled Haas on points. Yet in 2018, back when Alfa was Sauber, Haas doubled them on points. That's quite a switcharound given they both run the same PU and are both in various ways somewhat subservient to the same supplier team. I can't say Alfa are doing anything very inspirational but they have managed to make Haas look like a right bunch of tools.

I'm simply amazed that those two were paid many millions over several seasons.

Steiner urges drivers to self-motivate to help Haas out of "coma"
By Ewan Gale

Haas team principal Gunther Steiner has insisted departing drivers Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen must motivate themselves for the remainder of the season to help the team pull itself out of a "coma".

"We are in a little bit of a coma at the moment but we will get out of it like a lot of other people get out of these comas. It is not how you go down, it is how you come back up again."

How's he gonna motivate them when they've already been sacked?

The irony is that now the gravy train under the comical TP is over, they might actually start to impress! Not for the benefit of Haas but for their own pride and career...

They've both given up at that team - the netflix stuff whilst no doubt carefully edited showed clear glimpses of drivers that had lost respect for the Micky mouse outfit they had ended up at. Just look at how grosjean has been tooling around this season with reckless abandon. They haven't given a toss for a while - and to be frank the team have just watched as it's unravelled.

I take it back, coma is a good analogy. I just don't understand why Steiner thinks that's a good enough excuse - isn't it specifically his job to ensure the team doesn't become comatose in the first place confused
