Absolutely. I will go if the lockdowns aren't still in place

Must be a nice advantage, having your test track host a GP.

Not so nice if they still don't win...
Individula team testing is banned in F1 and has been for years. That's how they stopped Ferrari winning back in the late 2000's because they were the only team with their own test tracks. Ferrari had 1 day at Mugello this year, but it had to be with an F1 car at least 2 years old.

I love the track and it's fun to drive on games so I can imagine it's fun to drive for the drivers in real life but I can't help but feel like there's only gonna be DRS overtakes down the main straight and into turn one and nothing else?

Doesn't seem like there's anywherre where current F1 cars would be able to get close enough to each other to pass otherwise?

You mean another chance for four wheels to utterly destroy the two wheel lap times. Even a Radical SR8 is only a couple of seconds slower around there than the MotoGP lap record. F1 will easily be 20+ seconds faster.

If the race at Mugello (& Portimao) are a big success in terms of fun, action etc, what are the chances of them being on the F1 calendar perminantly rather than just a one-off?

I'd say zero.

Love mugello on forza, apart from the knobeads day out when it gets to turn 1 but don't think it's going to create much excitement in terms of overtakes, quite narrow too.

In normal circumstances, the only way into the calendar is paying a kings ransom to Liberty Media. Even popular tracks with large crowds are dropped to make room for despots who want to put their country on the map.
So, no, I don’t expect either of the new circuits to stay.

But I am definitely looking forward to Mugello, even if it’s a one-off. I don’t think it will necessarily be a great race full of overtaking opportunities, but it should show F1 cars and at their best. The same way that Silverstone does with the sequence through Maggotts and Becketts.

I agree in principle.. but if Mugello is an overnight viewer favourite, anything could happen. At least they get the exposure this way.

I thought Fiorano was Ferraris test track ?
Road car - the yellow ones - fiorano
Race cars - the red ones - mugello
Not really. The restrictions on testing means that they don't test the F1 cars at either Fiorano or Mugello these days.

Mugello is just a track that Ferrari happen to own. These was an official F1 test there back in 2012 but these days the only time F1 cars run there is at Corse Client events and those cars will be several years old.

From memory, Ferrari bought the circuit in the 90s when the owner got into financial difficulties.
Never said it was a test track.
...but you were responding to this post.

Ferrari tested their 2018 car at Mugello a few weeks ago, to blow away the lockdown cobwebs. I don't think they can run F1 cars at Fiorano anymore. Even Maranello isn't immune from noise complaints from local residents.

Great track but bumpy as hell now. The main road up from the town to the circuit is a proper laugh in places, major jumps territory. biggrin

Am fairly concerned abut F1 going to Mugello

It is a magnificent bike racing track and I do sincerely hope F1 cars going there does not introduce the ripple bumps they tend to at most places they race at.

I get why they have gone there but I hope the issue does not crop up as it would likely cost a lot to fix, and the main place it could cause problems is the first corner and on a GP bike, doing 220 mph there have already been huge near misses there, so bumps would really make it quite a dangerous spot.

I dont watch F1, and will likely not watch this, but I hope the track is not ruined.

It won't be ruined anymore than Marquez has ruined MotoGP (comment slightly tongue-in-cheek - I admire his talent but hate his utter dominance, the likes of which have never been seen in my lifetime in any sport). For my money these days, F1 >> MotoGP just because at least in F1 you still see (some) battles between LH and others, whereas Marquez just fks off into the distance most races

MotoGP has been pretty lame for a while now if all you are interested in is the winner. Marquez is literally playing with them for most races.
I still enjoy it though, only reason i pay for BT Sport is to watch the MotoGP.

Four wheels do indeed utterly destroy 2 wheels in motorsport. The SR8 Rx you're talking about is 10 seconds faster around Mugello than even hypercars however and its also basically the same as the DTM cars' times. And yes F1 will be 30 seconds faster as Barichello hit high teens there 15 yrs ago or so.

You should try a bike sometime though - they're so so much fun, and short of an F1 car or getting into actual car racing, much more involving than cars imho smile

They can and they do, when allowed. There are no noise restrictions, no one in town even dreams about complaining.
