Until you crash.

Life of bag tanks is 5 years plus 2 more after inspection and testing, thats the FIA time limit.

In reality they can last many decades.

You'll be looking about £10k for new tanks.

The one i used to look after had bag tanks, think he sold it before they were due. An alloy tank would not be a good idea, and in alot of countries not legal for road use.

It would cost peanuts to recommission if it's as described. You are not making anything new, it's basically replace all the rubbers and seals.
I'm guessing you don't watch Bangers & Cash: Restoring Classics then. It's amazing how many peanuts one ends up needing. smile

US market F40s all had alloy tanks because the bag tanks weren't legal there, so they already have a homologated design ready to use.

McLaren MSO now offer F1 owners a replacement alloy tank instead of the bag tanks as a fit and forget option.

For racing yes.

On the road you have a greater risk from perished bags springing a leak.

Last time I was at Bell Sport they had just done alloy tanks install.

£22k for new bags, plus labour.

I’ve been told to go to the place where the Ferrari folks eat. I think it’s called Montana.

I didnt know that, every day is a school day, i would always prefer a bag over an alloy tank, alloy tanks dont do well in a crash.

Both are great for different reasons. I vaguely remember some tequila on the house at Montana

In fairness they do seem to use the slowest most expensive people available, it's like they are trying to get the most outrageous bill possible.

I've been specifying and installing bag tanks in cars for decades, someone's pulling someone's pants down.

I see you’ve already moved on to greater things in the Monza thread. Shocked indeed biggrin

you may well be right

personally I'd prefer bespoke alloy if not racing, while also escaping the FIA claw

Ferrari parts prices being totally outrageous? Never thought that would happen!

Pretty sure a UK-based motorsport specialist could probably do one for half price or less.

Sod not driving it. I'd be finding excuses to head out to the shops every ten minutes. The long way around.

Forget about any residual value, the happiness factor from using it should more than cover that!

(that's partly why my VX220 clicked over to 90,000 miles this morning)

I can't understand why he won't drive it because of the ultra low miles, it's not as if residuals are something he needs to worry about! In any case, I'm sure the increase in value due to it being Lewis Hamilton's F40 will far outweigh any diminution caused by a few thousand miles on the clock.
