Yeah I mean in F1 though. I’m not too interested in him winning from the back aged 8 on a kart track

You should be! Some astonishing races by Lewis back in karting. Left some well known names for dust.

Hamilton like that is operating at a level I’ve only seen the following operate at:
Phelps
Brady
The Fed
Rafa
Dan Carter
Bolt

In my head that’s as elite company for a sportsman, as it gets.
Tiger Woods tops that list smile
Tiger Woods and the entire game of golf isn’t even close to that list.
I see a massive wrong turn here. Let’s not take it.

Oh God. I've just seen it all kicking off on Facebook because Lewis used the Brazilian flag to wipe his face after champers and threw it on the floor (not seen race yet so cant confirm if true)

Anyone still doubting his GOAT status?

Has to be one of the best drives of his career this weekend?
All doubt cleared.

I predicted this in the race thread. Flag related outrage. At what point does a towel become a flag?

He had already paraded it around on the in-lap and draped himself in it on the podium.
It was taken by all non half-wits to be a tribute to his Brazilian support.

If we allow a little bit of poetic licence - we add Saturdays sprint race combined with yesterdays full GP, can anyone think of a race where the driver on the top spot at the finish started last, overtook every car on track, some twice? This having served two penalties, a five place & a twenty place drop, no concurrent sentence applied? Absolutely astounding. I struggle to think of anything that comes close to that.
Nobody has won a race from last on the grid. In fact, technically, Hamilton didn't either because he only started last for the sprint race. He started the actual race from 10th.

The lowest position someone has won from is second-from-last - John Watson started the 1983 Long Beach GP from 22nd on the grid and won.

Closest feat to Sunday in modern times was probably Canada 2011, when Jenson Button was last after 37 laps and came through to win. In mitigation, he had a lot of help from weather and safety cars, which Hamilton didn't. smile
Was going to say Button coming from 21st in 2011 in Canada, plum last to winning, being the closest to Sunday and certainly an epic performance. I remember watching it thinking how is he doing this and not believing he’d win, but he did.

Have to say though that LH on Saturday and Sunday was just mind blowing, especially when you consider the data posted above by someone of the top speeds, which clearly shows why LH is such a phenomenal talent and imho the goat.

He wrapped it around the Mercedes guy on the podium, who I think DC said was a Brazillian. I also heard Lewis got fined for slackening his belts so he could reach the flag from the marshall.

Lauda on the podium too, he started 23rd,. Those cars just looked & sounded a miserable handful ,particularly on that track, I think most of the errors were due to turbo being like a switch & short wheelbase. Scary looking things.

A hell of a race, but only 11 cars actually finished in one piece, although 13 were categorised: almost half had retired by lap 48 . Contrast with last Sunday, 18 finished, with all still running until lap 47. Both great achievements anyway.
