Any would have held it for the race if it wasn't for the daft rule you can pit on the last lap if you have a 20 plus second gap behind you.

There is no rule wink

It’s still a risk for the driver- stuck wheel nut etc and your advantage has gone.

I mean you are allowed to. If they keep the extra point for fastest lap going forward it should only be allowed if your tyres are 10 laps older or more. Would encourage some drivers to give it a bit more on older tires rather than just singling out any driver that happens to have a pitstop window behind them.

What are they supposed to be pissed off or impressed about and commenting on?

Both very helpful replies that fully answer my question. I now fully understand why anyone doubting Hamilton’s ability has had their trap shut this weekend.

My comment was a ribbing RB. I am sure you can work out the answers to your questions. Seems fairly obvious to me.

He wears his heart on his sleeve and only a few days ago admitted he was close to walking out on Merc as well as criticisms of the car it can be perceived with being fed up, losing faith with Merc.

Hamilton has the ability to prove doubters wrong but they are fleeting moments. Head to head Russell has been the better driver - again. If he can't beat Russell how is he going to beat CLC?

Is Lewis in need of a new environment or has he never really got on with GE cars or is he past his peak?

BTW I followed LH ever since ITV showed karting with Champions of the Future. He has been the most extraordinary talent uncovered in the UK since Jim Clark IMHO.

The fastest lap point has been dropped for 2025 onwards.

He is always fast in a fast car.
Maybe lost his qualifying bottle with age.
He just can’t make a slow car fast in the same way the great drivers have done in the past.

He's still more than capable but he does suffer more mentally than many of the top drivers but that hasn't stopped him from achieving just about everything.

I'm hoping he stays on good terms with merc which I've no doubt he will, so that doors are open in the future.

Next year will be interesting to see how he shapes up against clc. I'm also excited to see if he appears in any gt cars or other prototypes with fezza. There are a lot of doors open after f1. He can also go after different triple crowns.

There is so much opportunity with merc mclaren and Ferrari close ties.

Ad21 was a farce but it won't change and I've just continually lowered my expectations of the fia tbh

After his calm and measured response to 2021, I would postulate that his mental "frailty" is pretty much non-existent...

Was thinking the same: recalling how well Senna coped with Prost, for eample, I wonder about some peoples memories...
