Those that seem to doubt Hamilton can drive a slow car fast only has to look back to the dim and distant 2003 season. Does anyone really believe that the 2093 Mercedes was the 2nd fastest car on the grid? Obviously Red Bull was a class of its own, but both the Ferrari and McLaren were faster than the Mercedes, as was possibly the AM, although Alonso also arguably outdrove his machine.
Some finger trouble with the numbers there. smile
I'm also curious about the 2093 Merc, but I doubt I'll be around to see it. And don't get me started on Lewis's 2003 performance, it was abysmal, utter cr*p!

Well, they'd given him a Formula Renault...

and shockingly only he claimed 10 wins and seven pole positions from 15 races to become the Formula Renault UK champion in his second full season wink

Shocking isn't it, he will never amount to anything, not got a chance in F1!

Hamilton says he is 'definitely not fast any more'

Odd thing to say a few months before you start with a new team!

Read into it what you will. You’d have to assume at this point in the year Merc aren’t brining Lewis into much if any of the detail given he’s off to Ferrari especially where there is zero danger to their constructors position.

Russell hasn’t suddenly consistently become multiple tenths more talented than Lewis.

I suspect it was a statement of fact that he is now the number two driver who is leaving the team and is no longer being treated in any special way.

Earlier this year he said that he doubted if he would beat George in any Qualifying session.

I doubt his car is being deliberately hobbled by Mercedes, but he is probably second choice when it comes to PUs, tyres and manufactured items. Briefings about the future will obviously be forbidden territory, but I wonder if he even gets to see George’s data now.

I say this as a Lewis fan since he arrived in F1, but I am a little concerned by some of what I’ve seen and heard from him recently. I would dearly love to see him fight for another championship or two at Ferrari, but at the moment I’m not filled with optimism. I think the first half a dozen races will be telling. Unless he’s on terms with Charles by that point I can see his head dropping and him struggling to make progress.

He was the fastest driver in LV, George only won because Lewis didn't qualify properly, his pace in qualy was faster.

It's quite amusing seeing the reaction to his wind up comments.

Max is going to have a headache next year dealing with a motivated Lewis in a competitive car again.

He was 100% trolling. No elite sports star talks about being uncompetitive with a massive grin on their face. Joke was on sky ports dedicating a segment it tbh. Guess it's slow news after the championship was decided last week though.

I am aware of the pace he showed in LV. I wouldn’t like to say whether his latest comments were a wind up as you put it, but I truly hope so.

Hope he has a good race but he is really letting himself down with the confusing interviews after. Dog ate my homework style stuff lol.
You are leaving the team so you are not the centre of attention.
As for the age and past it stuff. I guess if 3 sumo wrestlers are jumping on you several times a lap you may not recover as quick as someone
a lot younger by the next corner.
The Mercedes seems like a pile of rubbish thats harder on the driver than some of the other cars. Maybe the Ferrari is more to his liking.

Don’t think he’s letting himself down at all. He’s been dignified and respectful throughout the three mostly crap seasons with Mercedes.

I wish Angela Cullen would return to his fold. He has seemed to be mentally less strong since the events of AD21. I think that the positive energy she gave him when things were not flowing in his direction meant a lot to him.

He now seems quite a loner on the grid and he cannot even be 100% be certain what Bonno is telling him is the absolute truth.

Just like when he went to Mercedes and Nico owned the garage, I will believe he will have a bigger job with Charles’s respect there. His crew will probably not be happy about the loss of Carlos either.

I’ve said it before, this is a calculated move by Merc to destabilise LH ahead of his move to Ferrari. It is clear that LH doesn’t want to be there, they don’t want him there moping and having to field negative comments on SM, Kimi could do with the practice ahead of next season and they’ve got nothing to lose. Yet they insist on him driving the car and apparently have marketing duties scheduled until the end of the year. Rubbish of course, but it’s their plan.

The more GR is at the front challenging for poles and wins while LH is languishing the more Toto can justify effectively pushing LH out of the team with the 1+1 contract. If anything, he can laud it as a master stroke in timing.

LH is saying clearly that the car is fine, it is fast, but somehow he can’t qualify anywhere near GR. In the race it’s a different story but it’ll be hard to shine from a lowly starter position.

When he says that the next race can’t come soon enough so that he can get out of there, the more the claim that he’ll be doing marketing activity after the season is just rubbish. He’s already checked out of there.

His crew will be delighted they get to work with such a brilliant driver who knows how to win championships. It's clear Lewis and Max are the two most capable of bringing in results and rarely make mistakes.
