We’re not talking about GP2 or F3 or Le Mans. We’re talking about F1 and he wasn’t quick enough in it.

Plenty of drivers were quick in GP2 but couldn’t cut it in F1.

Davide Valsecchi, Giorgio Pantano & Jolyon Palmer to name but three.
I'll weigh in here because I worked with Hulk a few years ago. He's bloody brilliant, frankly, and his level of feedback is the best I've ever experienced. No question. The comparison with Checo is interesting because for my money Perez is far better than he's ever been given credit for and was always suberb at managing the tyres - but in '14 there was quite a large points gap between them.

Don't even think about comparing Hulk with the likes of Valsecchi or Palmer: they won GP2 because they were basically career GP2 drivers with multiple years behind them who won on experience. Hulk slaughtered the field at his first attempt. Oh and he slaughtered Palmer at Renault in '17 to boot.

He was permanently in the wrong place when it came to driver contracts and timings and had no money to grease any palms.

Given that he "wasn't quick enough" for F1 in your eyes it's especially notable that in 2018 he out-qualified and out-scored the new for 2021 Ferrari driver when they were together at Renault. So by your reckoning Sainz definitely isn't quick enough for F1 either. I think you'd better get on the blower to Red Bull, McLaren, Renault and Ferrari to tell them.
I used the Palmer comparison because someone said that Hulk being good in GP2 as an example of his skill in F1. Palmer is proof that winning in GP2 demonstrates nothing of the sort.

Anyway, great - If he's that good I'm glad he's secured a seat for next year. Oh, wait.......

If he was fast enough he'd still be in F1. He couldn't cut it, so he's out.

There is no consipiracy, no miscarriage of justice. It's a results based business.
F1 is not about talent anymore. It's about who brings the most money so the team can keep their lights on and can pay their leccy bills.

This is what F1 looks like going into 2021

Lance Stroll - son of a billionaire

Mick Schumacher - son of a billionaire* and very well connected.

Nikita Mazepin - son of a billionaire

Latifi - son of a billionaire.

Albon - pretty sure his old man is loaded

Norris - ditto

That's 30% of the grid.

Williams were desperate enough to have semi-disabled Robert Kubica in their team because he brought more money than Sirotkin the year before.

F1 is all about nepotism and money. Always has been.

Schumacher isn't a billionaire.....

Lando's Dad is worth about £150m. Sounds a lot but isn't in terms of F1.

I don't think Albon's Dad is mega wealthy but could be wrong.

So Latifi, Mazepin and Stroll.......

Schumacher earned very close to $1bn. In 2007 it was estimated it was well north of $800bn in career earning surpassing Tiger Woods.

You dont suppose his bank balance in his Swiss bank balance has been accumulating 1-2% interest annually? I doubt he was p*ssing his money away like Floyd Mayweather in strip clubs....

Point is....there a new generation of ultra wealthy kids on the block and they could be utterly hopeless journeymen but be able to finance 10-15 year careers while more talented, more deserving kids will end up missing out.

Yes, COVID was the cause of his symptoms, but he’s now tested negative and will race this weekend.

He only had a test when he went home, why not at the circuit, apparently team didn’t have him tested because he only had some mild symptoms!!

He'd been tested on the way in to the circuit, obviously progressed to a state at which it would register positive between the two tests.

Also they're using the rapid tests which are not 100%

As I understand it he was not tested whilst in Germany and didn’t have a pre-race test, which I assumed everyone had, strange unless you believe he would test positive and didn’t want to cast doubt on others.

See Stroll Snr is also positive.

Whatever the times, according to the team the intervals were correct, within the requirement of F1.

I can't see why they'd try and cheat that requirement as it's in their own interests as a team to detect and isolate ahead of it spreading to other key people.

So it looks like Red Bull and the annoying Horner are publicly warning Albon that his seat is very much at risk. They are also saying they will look at the available drivers which might mean Schumacher, Perez or Hulk. I like to think it will be Hulk.

It would be interesting to see how Hulk managed in that team/car given that two previously decent drivers have fallen to pieces and both Kvyat and Gasly seemed to improve on their return to Torro Rosso. Albon at least started well.

I'd rather see him with another team, but it's probably his best chance of a podium unless Honda stop delivering.
