Crofty was annoying yesterday, I have been ok with him a few races this season, but the switcharoo was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Brundle also made a couple of mistakes, he said something like "George has been making good progress in that WILLIAMS" but I can let that slide.

Dear old Murray used to use " I agreed with the general sentiment that it's time for Sky to change not only the commentator but the rest of the line up too.
I pay for SkyF1 (so not biased) , but I've always held the view that the C4 team are so much better on balance. Coulthard and Webber are great, the main coms is ok, but a decent step up from Croft. The only one who really lets the team down is Steve Jones. Get rid of him, and get Jenson on board and thats it sorted? (or Sky nick all the names Ive suggest for C4, either way both could be better).

BTW my 9 year son questioned why the commentator was shouting during the last lap when nothing was happening. A 9 year old....
It’s the opposite for me, I don’t mind the sky commentary but can’t listen to the channel 4 Redbull fan club
Agreed......apart from Paul Di Resta of course, he really is terrible.

It's not as if Sky is exempt from the Red Bull ass-kissing. Just how many times do we have to 'hear from Christian Horner on the pit wall'!?

I watched the Channel 4 coverage of the British Grand Prix and it was a revelation. The main commentator is SO much better/calmer than Croft that it was a joy by comparison. Far fewer mistakes, and WAY less screaming.

Completely agree about Di Resta though. He's really awful.

His lack of understanding of the wheel-to-wheel stuff is unforgivable after so long in the job. You'd think he'd go and do a bit of karting or club racing just to familiarise himself with the basics.
I doubt the Kart would break 5MPH.

t's not just Crofty that needs to go, I think the entire Sky team could do with a refresh.

Might as well have my Nan on the Skypad. She'd probably be more useful than Herbert laugh

I'm pretty sure Ted get's a brief each weekend to try and be more annoying than the last.
I don't mind Ted, but his insistence on referring to the Alfa Romeo's as Sauber is annoying.

The trouble is, I get the impression he's one of the few who likes doing it (as he's a smug arrogant arse who likes the sound of his own voice). But to be fair, he does do it even if things aren't going their way. I like Toto but we don't hear much from him, maybe related to their relative performance woes? And Otmar was about as interesting as a potato yesterday.

I'd like to hear more from Gunther, but I guess they are a bit nervous putting him out on live TV hehe

OK to be specific, I worked for McLaren F1, Jaguar F1 racing, and Pi Research in the F1 division.

What I worked on I can't say, due to NDAs, beyond saying it was mostly involved in simulation, simulation algorithms, and data analysis.

So, you're right, absolutely no expertise in F1 there.

Still waiting to hear your expertise.

This thread is priceless
It's hardly necessary to have worked within F1 to understand that Croft is unfit for purpose.
I never said you did, I was accused of being clueless about F1, and was just clarifying I was far less clueless than the ones complaining about Croft.

Anyway back to all your inane "expert" ramblings about a commentator.

He's been having a pop at a lot of people this weekend. He kicked off with his co-commemtator during FP1.

Grumpy sod, he is.

What’s wrong with Lazenby,Rosberg saying DR isn’t a problem it’s just that LN is doing an Exeptional job, then Lazenby completely ignores him and continues with DR is rubbish

It's a strange thread, that's for sure. If you don't like the commentator then watch something else.

Why? There are plenty of other F1 streams available.

Perhaps people wish to watch it on their TV setup with the sky package they pay for. They are right to an opinion on whether the commentary adds to the event or not. Of course, some will think he is brilliant, just like others will think he is absolutely dreadful.

A forum without opinions would be pretty empty, as such if people disagree with the thread it is far easier for them to go about ignoring the thread than it is for a fan to go about ignoring the coverage.

In my opinion I believe croft is poor. Like many of skys (and bt's) football commentators, I feel their focus is on creating that soundbite that may make an advert rather than on the sport itself.

Some of the most iconic moments in sports commentary (in my opinion) come from moments when the drama of the sport has taken over and the commentator is adding to the drama with a choice reaction of some words. As a LFC fan, I instantly think of Andy gray and Gerrard's goal Vs olympiakos in 2004, not just because it still gets an airing on sky (and I hate Andy gray).

I feel now a lot of it is forced, perhaps to generate the pre allocated number of twitter posts of tiktok or whatever it now is. I believe the commentators often believe they are part of the story, rather than a useful helper in bringing the story to the audience

Of course this is all my opinion, which is likely the purpose of the thread right?
