One of the reasons James and Murray worked was because they shared one microphone.
When Murray was losing his mind and spouting s
te, which he was prone to, James would grab the microphone and tell us how s
te one of the drivers were.
Now imagine if Martin and Croft had only one microphone, the amount of s
te spouting would at least half.

Arguably Murray is to blame for modern F1 commentary. If somebody watched his highlights and heard Murray's raised pitched voice they would think F1 is constantly entertaining. It's not. The fake excitement is so that it can used for the highlight reels. A case in point on another forum Alex Jacques was criticised for over embellishing when announcing George Russell as the race winner yesterday.
Not sure blaming the genuine article for the way the fakes behave works for me...hondajack85 said:

May be because that was when I was first getting into F1 properly, but Murray and James were peak commentary team for me. Martin and Croft with one mic doesn't bare thinking about. I suspect the mic would end up being inserted somewhere it shouldn't be. When Murray was losing his mind and spouting s

Worth remembering they didn't like each other to begin with. Murray thought Hunt was a privileged Hoo-ray Henry, Hunt would turn up unprepared with bottle in hand and nick Murray's notes. I think one time they almost came to blows having to share the microphone.
Hunt didn't give a f
k, which made for some classic comments. entropy said:

Im not watching it again but others can, to hear not much beyond who's in the tv picture. Funny enough F1 was easy to follow back then.

I m wondering if someone has had a word. Listening to the F1 on record and he s less shrieky and shrill, and far more conversational.
Or maybe Ant has told him to follow his lead and be far calmer. Like someone who knows what they are talking about.
My brother called me during the race, (I was watching on F1 TV) and I could hear Croft screaming in the background.Or maybe Ant has told him to follow his lead and be far calmer. Like someone who knows what they are talking about.
This was when the safely car was out

He just can't help himself with the "old switcheroo" can he. He tried to avoid it with "switching positions" etc BUT it just had to creep in eventually!! He was still screaming at the end despite the gap from 1st to 2nd being far too great for anything meaningful happening.
But Ant did call him on it. I would love to hear Ant and MB do commentary. Gassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
