So basically they’ve made an announcement to say that they’re going to make an announcement.

Imagine...

Aston Martin Racing with Vettel as No. 1 driver and Stroll Snr. backing manage to tempt Toto into the Team Principle role for one season only.
"Aston Martin Racing" is Prodrive....... nothing to do with the F1 team.

I think you'll find David Brown was a wealthy motor racing enthusiast. wink

millionaire/billionaire is relative because it was 70 years ago

Apart from the recent corporate/VC ownership, they've almost only ever had wealthy enthusiast owners. The thing is, at this level even Stroll's billions won't go very far if the company gets into any difficulties. The tie-in with Mercedes is far more significant to them than the boss' bank account.

Would the tie-in with Mercedes have happened without Stroll? Even if it is just in name only, it's great to see the Aston Martin name in F1. If they get a few poles and/or race wins, even better.

AM say Vettel's driving style and car setup preference isn't as extreme as Perez, and they can get the car to suit him. https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/vettels-driving-...

Does this mean that stroll will find it easier to get a race setup.

Aston Martin have signed Nico Hulkenberg as a reserve driver.

Wonder if he’ll have replaced Vettel by the end of the season?

I think The Hulk would of been a better option then Seb in the first place and they would have saved a nice chunk of change. A 4 time world champion cant come cheap.

Seb seems to have carried on this season where he left off with Ferrari last year, maybe unfair to judge based on one race, but i defo Think Aston Martin getting Hulkenberg in are working on a plan B and lets face it it's not going to be for Stroll is it.

I'm pretty sure the links to Daimler/Mercedes predate the Stroll family interest - it goes back 10 years or so.

I bet a tenner that Vettel finds his mojo as soon as Aston Martin get on top of the set up issues.

They'll probably mirror Mercedes and set-up directions will take a similar path. They've already had a migration of staff from Brackley as Mercedes are downsizing for 2022 so that culture and work ethic will find its way into Aston Martin sooner rather than later.

I really hope you win your tenner!

It's been an uncomfortable experience to see Seb struggle and blunder his way through the last couple of seasons. Would be a huge shame if his career fizzled out like this; would very much like to see him in a car that suits his driving style rather than frustrating him, and getting back into the battle for podium places.

I'd say this is more likely. Aston and Vettel themselves both said before Bahrain he still wasn't 100% prepared for the season after having problems that further limited their running time during testing. Combine that with just how unlucky he was to get a penalty/have the quali lap ruined by yellows and Sunday was always going to be a long race, especially on a one stop strategy. A lot of people seem to have written him off after one race.

I think that you can add that he also has to make Lance look good.

Laurence is clearly a genius at brand marketing, but i just see the DBX as the wrong product at the wrong moment in time.

I really do not get Maserati, Ferrari, Lamborghini V8+ Chelsea tractors. The Range Rover still looks like the class act amongst these interlopers.

I don't think you employ a 4 time WDC with anything other than high hopes!

Lawrence Stroll cares about one thing only in F1 and that's the name Stroll.

Using Aston and Vettel is good PR.
