Honda to leave F1

I think Honda are simply consolidating, they are getting pasted in all areas, the cars are mostly old ,motorbikes generators boat engines chainsaws etc are being wiped out by Chinese copies. They know the future is strategic alliance / merger with another bigger fish and so are losing the costly baggage.
Honda's MotoGP bike effort is in the st this year because they built it around Marquez and the other riders can't ride it like he does. He got injured and now they're lucky to score points at a race without him, nevermind a podium or a win. Would they consolidate their way out of bike racing too? What will be interesting is how this effects Hamilton's contract bargaining position. Suddenly, Max is going to be very keen to jump ship to Mercedes, which will weaken Hamilton's position significantly. He won't agree to a one year deal, so do Mercedes go for a Max/Lewis dream team from 2022? Show Lewis the door and get Max alongside Russell for 2022? Or does Lewis walk away at the end of the year having won his seventh world title? Possibly buy Max out of the last year of his RB contract?
Mercedes wont supply them as they may be be beaten.
Ferrari wont as they will be beaten.
Renault will though. Dont they care about being beaten?
But I still think it will be Renault under some sort of rebadge. They need another team to balance the books better.
Also Cyril said he wants a closer relationship with any new partner like what mercedes do with tracing point. Newey can work 2 days at Alpine. Coffee machine is free etc.

When it stops selling bikes then yes Honda being in F1 isnt selling them any cars.
The only interesting car they make is fully electric, so very little relevance to F1
There is very little benefit in having your engine under a body panel that's emblazoned with red bull and Aston Martin branding.
I think this increases the probability that Mercedes, as a team, will come to an end after 2021 but keep supplying engines, and I won't be too surprised if Hamilton leaves too.
It's nigh on impossible under the current climate to compete against Mercedes. The only team that could is Ferrari and they are back to being traditional Ferrari. 2022 hinges on Ferrari coming good again and they appear miles off.
The sport can't go on as it is even in the short term.

Maybe Aston Martin will build the engine, Ohhh bugger just a Mercedes customer these day aren't they? Honda being in F1 isnt selling them any cars.

time to get rid of all the hybrid and computer tech on f1 cars and go back to screaming engines and manual gearboxes.
The way forward is never to go backwards. As for the Red Bull dilemma; I can see one of a couple of things happening.
1. RB go cap in hand back to Renault. This is last resort, probably for all involved.
2. RB buy the IP of the Honda engine, potentially with a partner and re-badge it. Think McLaren TAG-Porsche or Williams Mecachrome.
3. RB convince another manufacturer to buy the IP of the Honda engine to avoid year 1/2/3 of start-up pain.
4. RB convince another new manufacturer to come in and take over from scratch.
I actually think they'll try option 2.
Maybe this will teach the Red Bull team to respect their engine partners a bit more rather than just whinging all the time it goes wrong.
Max must be hacked off......

I guess RB leaving the sport is the most likely outcome of this.
They must have known this was coming before they signed up to the sport for another term.Unless something catastrophic happens, key suppliers don't just exit like this without warning.
To sign up for another term therefore indicates that Red Bull have a plan B.

Honda did last time (though that was caused by the financial crash) with no warning just after the end of the season. Ross Brawn and Nick Fry talk about in detail here (around 15 minutes in):Gassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
