For those who have had tickets for F1 races this season that have been cancelled, has everyone been able to get a full refund?

I had tickets booked for the F1 weekend in Hungary through Hungarotickets and after the race was cancelled I applied for a refund, but they have only refunded me 75% of the amount. When I queried it I was told that it took into account the operator's own costs and that is why I didn't get a full refund.

I wondered what everyone else's experiences were.

Applied for refund on Vietnamese GP tickets in April, heard and received nothing back... Had pretty much just wrote it off at this point (4 week holiday cancelled and didn't want to think about it).

This thread has prompted me to follow up, so thanks for that 😊.

My ticket refund for Hungary was a bit random too. (But I must admit I hadn't realised that until you posted this and I just checked)

It was supposed to be full value - minus a 3% service fee. (which was a mickey take anyway)

I ended up with a refund which was full value - 5.6%. Basically, they've stolen an extra tenner off me. I wonder if it's to do with exchange rates in my instance?

I have Portimão tickets however can’t now go, they’re not having any of it though regards to a refund.

They had stated they would offer refunds but were also looking in to 'other options'. god only knows what else they think they could offer, they're not a regular F1 fixture so can't offer to move the tickets to 2021...

Given the number of tickets they hoped to sell initially I imagine they were skint even before 20k ish people that had booked GA had to be denied access. I doubt they've got the cash flow at present even though they should refund. Same as the airlines and holiday companies that are still struggling to refund people from nearly 6 months ago!

Did you buy direct or via third party?

That's interesting, which company did you book your tickets through? I bought four tickets, so with them keeping 25% I am now down over £110 in total, which is a lot really.

I had a stand off with F1 over my Spanish GP tickets. I got cheesed off waiting, so by the time they offered 97% I'd already opened a complaint via Barclaycard.

Is the event still having spectators, or have you decided (sensibly) not to go? If the latter I kind of understand their stance.

Travel insurance or credit card dispute?

I booked via the circuit website, ticket sales are being handled by BlueTicket. I knew the risk of course and am much more disappointed that we can’t go now as it would have been a perfect break for us but if a refund is available obviously I’ll take it smile

We were wobbling tbh as Portugal is now back on quarantine list but then our flights were cancelled so that made our minds up for us really.
I will suck it up if there’s no official refund available and will just have to wait for Austria ‘21 for some live action.

They were from the official F1 Ticket Store.

That's such a shame. We were a bit cheesed off about our Spanish trip, but in the scheme of things it wasn't such a big deal.

Unless the ticket was explicitly sold as 'no refund in the event of forced cancellation' or whatever, then they ultimately have to refund less 'admin' charges. As I said though, they might be caught with their knickers down and in denial about the whole thing so soon after learning that their attendance quota was to be halved...

In the end, I doubt very much they'll get away with taking 20,000 peoples ££ in return for sod all. You might have to keep on at them and ultimately be patient.

Thanks for letting me know - with hindsight I should have got them from there too.

If you bought direct from https://www.f1vietnamgp.com/ ,

If you haven't already had your cancellation email from them, go to the link above and use the online chat to ask about a refund. They'll take your order number, email address, and email the form you need to complete.

Return that, and you should have your refund acknowledgement within a day.

"The circuit confirmed it would offer fans a full refund on tickets if requested, and that it was working on "several solutions" for those in the general admission zone."

I really can't imagine what the other solutions could be given this was a one off event... But according to Autosport the circuit has agreed to offer refunds. Doesn't mean they can do so instantly of course, I doubt they have the cash available as this was a very last minute change and they hadn't even sold as many tickets as they targeted when they agreed terms with Liberty. This might end up costing the circuit a lot..
