The timings in the OP look a bit squiffy.
Session start time jumps from an hour after local time to an hour before for the race.

I'm assuming it's a 1410 race start for us?

Edited by ChocolateFrog on Tuesday 27th October 00:32
UK times are correct on the OPs list, just a typo on the local quali time which should say 14:00.

So, race is 12:10 UK time.
Apologies, it was early. UK times are all correct, the local quali time isn't.

I don't see how you could fit in all of the practice/quali/race sessions (F1/F2/F3/Porsche) in over a 2 day weekend, not sure even if they dropped Porsche you could do it. For me I like the current format, nice to be able get around dfifferent parts of the circuit on Friday. Plus if they're reducing the length of the weekend the ticket prices are going to look even more expensive, bad enough now.
I assume the support series would still use the Friday?

And yes, we use the Friday testing to take a leisurely amble around the circuit stopping to watch from different aspects; it's kind of a nice gentle start to the weekend.

Silverstone did try tacking on Thursday afternoon a couple of years ago - something like an hour of f2/3 testing for about +£30. I imagine about 12 people paid it.

As a spectator - at the track or at home watching on TV - I'd really miss Fridays if they were to go.

I thought I would but I think the reduced track time may spice up the races quite a bit. They can't get through all of the scenarios and so will need to take a few more risks. That said it would be the nail in the coffin for testing new drivers on a Friday?

Great to see Imola back on the list again. Sadly likely to be a one-off.
Depends doesn't it? They wouldn't normally consider such circuits these days perhaps... But now they have been forced to, if the viewer reaction is very positive then that could change things. Have to wait and see of course. Although, say the vaccine (about to be rolled out in London for front line staff) is successful, would F1 really go back to the 'normal' more familiar calendar? I would think there would be some concerns it could look a little dull and ordinary after this seasons 'knee jerk tour or Europe'. Lot's of commercial considerations I know, and this season's solution clearly isn't sustainable. But one of the biggest commercial factors is the reaction and happiness of the global TV audience. Some circuits which don't make much sense to FOM on paper may however prove to be very appealing to viewers.

Something good has to come out of this turd infested year after all smile
The draft 2021 calendar is being shared with teams this week- it looks very similar to the original 2020 schedule (according to Autosport)
Chase on Beyond The Grid said 2021 is likely to look like 2020 was meant to however management may change things up in 2022 with some of the newer tracks.

A very sensible sounding chap. Worth a listen.

Wish i worked in f1 even any job would be cool.
The attraction wears off pretty quickly. Constant travel during the season - in economy class. Home - airport - hotel - track - hotel - track - hotel - track - hotel - track - airport - home. Pretty low wages because people are queueing up for the jobs.
wouldn't be the same as the ted walk around either. You would be washing wheels and packing flight cases. Any standing around taking in the atmosphere would be regarded as slacking.
Probably fun for a few years though till the wife shows you her new baby with features not unlike the milkman.
It's a singlies life that's for sure, would be cool to do for a few years in your 20's.
He did say any job, there are a lot more jobs in an F1 team than the trackside crew? Although naturally the travelling is the coolest perceived aspect I imagine to many.

They won't be using Imola again in a normal year , it's a bit run down as I mentioned earlier and the paddock area isn't very big either .

23 races, 3 triple headers after the summer break... I saw a copy this morning, theres clearly outstanding commitments to existing promotors, but the revised 2020 calendar will be the best we've seen for a while.

I appreciate that this year is the exception to the rule but it's been the only season I can remember in a long time where I've not been envious of the team personnel at the circuits. The amount of travelling they have done this year, in a short space of time, is unreal and I'm sure the end of the season can't come soon enough for some of them to be able to grab some quality time at home.

That would be a shame. One of the very few good things to have come out of the covid mess is that F1 has shown that it can cope without lugging all the hositality crap back and forth around the world, double headers at the same track do work, small tracks work, and that the teams can adapt. Why can't some weekends be two days, some three, some maybe even four. I really hope F1 sieze the chance to make the calender both more interesting and busier. I'd be happy to watch 30 races a year.

It looks the same presumably because that reflects the contracts in place. They will then have to do what they did this year - cancel on a rolling basis and implement an adhoc calendar?

Personally I am loving the new circuits, and 2 day weekends would add even more variables to the mix.

What other tracks in Europe could be added?

I’ve seen f3 cars go round coombe, and it was impressive. The local NIMBYs got it banned, and then complained all the pubs went out of business.

An F1 car might be a bit too fast for the place.

Current F1 would be very impressive at my local track, Oulton Park, but I suspect it's a very long way from being a Grade One circuit. frown

They did host non-championship F1 races back in the 50s.

59 second lap record when the F3 cars were in town (still the record on the 'new' circuit and not likely to be beaten), would love to see an F1 car over Avon Rise.

I dare say the lack of run off (or pit buildings!) may put the F1 circus off.

I remember being at Combe in 1970 when the F5000 cars invaded. Even then, as a spotty teenager, I pondered over my personal safety as Gethin & Co got into their stride.

The fastest lap by an F5000 car that day was 56.6 secs, breaking the existing lap record by the best part of 8 seconds...

Incidentally I'm not surprised by the spectator ban this weekend. Even though the Portuguese enjoyed the influx of trade last weekend the vast majority of locals resented the sight of busy grandstands at a time when C-19 cases have surged in the Country - promoting a ban in out-of-district travel this coming Holiday weekend.
