Does Hamilton just set his qualifying car up for the race, knowing that he’s likely to be second at the worst on quali day.

Seems odd these reoccurring bottas poles, for Hamilton to merely drive away from him from the first few laps

Their biggest bet is to hope that their teams can make the most of the new regulations, but as we heard this week Mercedes have already abandoned development on this years car and have everyone on next year’s - which buys them even more headroom to get people on the new ‘22 car as soon as it’s allowed next year.
I think Red Bull could do the same though (stop developing this year's car) since their 2nd place is locked in barring some crazy scores from one of the teams below them? And Ferrari actually *want* to finish lower so they get more CFD time next year (prize money being much less important to Ferrari), so I'm quite surprised if their developments are for this year and not testing things for next.

Basically I'm not sure Merc starting work on the 2021 car is as much of an advantage as it appears.

Well it’s 9:4 so he seems to do well on both days!

I've heard this suggested a number of times, from a number of sources. It seems to fit the results. His car does seem to be better suited to the race. Last race, LH seemed confident enough to let a couple of cars pass and to warm his tyres. He even suggested, as an aside, that he knew he could get past Bottas. But then, didn't we all.

What's the chance of a safety car at Imola, that could mix things up.

If not I think Bottas could win this one.

Anyone else fed up of all these computerised Pokerstars advertising boards added to the Sky TV image?

They did it in Portimao too

Alongside Alonso at Renault in 2022? hehe

He has a contract until 2023, but I'm sure there are release clauses, possibly based engine supply since he will have known when he signed that Honda only had one more year after this.
Horner stated outright there's no engine clause (unless he was lying directly)

With other countries heading towards lockdown, I wonder if future races will be cancelled?

Enjoy it while it lasts.
Professional sport is continuing and with the F1 circus being tested as often as it is they'll finish the season off.

yup. abu dhabi is 100% happening, can't see bahrain being cancelled so that's only istanbul left which is a closed door event.

bet it'll be a weird feeling for hamilton, taking a record equaling title with no cheering other than from his team below.

It's on the official feed as they appear on the C4 coverage too. I'm more annoyed at them being for gambling than anything, but that's for another thread. They are overly prominent though.

They were even on the Middle East feed, from which they’re going to get no customers as all the gambling sites are blocked in the region.

Presumably the US got their own ad for PredictIt or DraftKings? That’s the point of the virtual ads, to allow regional differentiation, especially for a product that’s subject to heavy national restrictions.

Aren't they exactly as prominent as they've paid to be?

Well if nothing else we've had some new names for GPs this year. There could be some interesting pub quiz questions in years to come.

Also, that podium would mean Lewis secures both titles wouldn't it? Could happen..

Very true, although hopefully the powers that be are listing to the feedback from drivers and fans alike, about how much they love events at these old-school circuits.

Lewis needs 23 points more than Bottas to wrap up the drivers’ championship today. (They’re on 256 and 179 points respectively, with four races to go after today).

Edit. No, he can’t, it’s actually 27 points more he needs, thanks to the fastest lap bonus points. Will be settled in Turkey, unless Bottas wins today and in Intanbul.

For some reasons, i reckon we haven't seen the end of Bottas this season.

in what way?

Lewis normally sorts the title before sneaking off and letting nic drive the car, and TBF he could could take a 2 or 3 race covid holiday at this point and probably still not lose his lead.
