Future F1 gloves could maybe afford to be thicker on the back of the hands. Shouldn't interfere with touch sensitivity and at least give you the option of closing your fist of it gets too hot.
Agreed - I was thinking along the lines of some sort of expanding gel / foam that would be heat activated and provide insulation for the hands. I'm sure they'll be some clever folk looking at this ahead of any FIA recommendations from the incident report.

the last thing you would want is effective airbags in your fingers when you are trying to get out. redface

Put them in ejection seats. In Romain's case it may not have actually taken him anywhere but might have blown the burning car away from him hehe

Also, add the ejection seat activation to a TV driven "dislike" function. Driver gets enough thumbs down and boom he's out of the car.

Lucky guy, 10 seconds longer and that could have been much more extensive.
<cheap shot> So the less time you spend on fire the better? hehe

I think the medical car had burns gel in it as well. So the "right stuff" was instantly on them asap, which has to have helped.

Even a few years ago I'm sure I saw a MX5 racer not wearing gloves. Not mandatory for his series I guess. But utter madness to my eyes.

The 10 seconds is the added time the undergarments and overalls add over what the gloves can stand.

There's a series on Netflix called Fastest Car, one of the contestants has burn scars on his hands and face because he chose to wear a fire resistant suit but not the balaclava or gloves, and was caught in a car fire. A lesson learnt the hard way.

That's the problem with experience. You get the exam before you get the lesson.

Before we have to hear him suggest automatic firing of them as a solution to track limits.

Following on from this Romain had a seat fitting at Mercedes in March (Netflix filmed it) and will be doing demo laps in the W10 at the French GP followed by a test day. Lovely gesture...

Aren't demo laps done on some awful control tyre to prevent the teams getting any meaningful data?
