With the tokens system on updates, I thought it might be possible that Renault/Alpine used some or all of theirs on the tub. I asked, they didn't. As said, they didn't change the tub last year either, so their 2021 car is using a 2019 tub.
They only have two tokens to use this year, McLaren had to use that on the chassis to accommodate the engine switch. Had they not needed to do that, there are likely more gains elsewhere. This puts McLaren at a disadvantage this year, they will be hoping the PU performance improvement compensates for that development loss elsewhere. I like the Alpine. Although a bit of a technical flop the presentation showed a history of the brand. It seems we in the UK have a myopic view of other nations racing history but would wet ourselves if the hillman minx name entered F1.
I dont know why there is such an obsession that teams should spend a fortune totally redesigning a car somehow with 2 tokens. They were limited this year to save money.
Its all about 2022 anyway as nobody was going to beat the top 2 teams this year. Im sure the problematic tub will be gone by then.

Merc is like the previous years, generally uninspiring.
Alpine, they had the chance to do something good and what they have made is a car which looks like it has been inspired by the NBA
If that is the Aston, at the moment it just looks like a fully Petronas sponsored car.
Alpha Tauri still looking the best at the moment

Red, white and blue is used on many things, and I can’t see a white silhouette of a basketball player on the car The Alpine looks amazing. You could say the Aston is inspired by grass because it’s green.Alpine, they had the chance to do something good and what they have made is a car which looks like it has been inspired by the NBA

I'm sure the French used red/white/blue a few hundred years before the NBA Alpine, they had the chance to do something good and what they have made is a car which looks like it has been inspired by the NBA

Strange comment, it's the French colours and broadly consistent with previous Alpine liveries in motorsport.Edited by ch37 on Wednesday 3rd March 14:30

He's been getting a bit trigger happy recently during the latest lockdown...

Quite like the Aston Martin.
I thought their launch was embarrassing. A rapper doing the voiceover, Lawrence Stroll reading from a script, everyone suited and booted like outdated office dwellers, then an American footballer to say that the car 'looks fast' so I gave up then.Compare that to Mercedes' launch yesterday with Toto just talking freely about the car, the team, the ambitions. James Alison telling us about the details, Lewis and Valtteri chatting. Yes they all knew what they wanted to get across and had a basic plan for the interviews but they were not reading from an autocue!

Yeh it did seem a bit corporate, Mercedes can pretty much do what they want these days. Didn't understand the Tom Brady bit at all.
