Who's going to Silverstone this year?
Discussion
Anyone?
I've just booked an Air BnB for Friday and Saturday night. Not sure how things will be by July, I am hoping I will either be back at work (cruise ships) or able to get back to NYC to be with Mrs. Guitar, but the air BnB is cancellable until the 15th of July, so nothing to lose by booking. if I go I think I will go for a 'Vale' grandstand seat which is £295.

I am truly staggered by how much money people re prepared to pay to see an F1 race, it genuinely amazes me.
I know, it's crazy, isn't it!?I think if it all goes ahead as 'normal' this year though, it will be well worth it. I can imagine it being a spectacular place to be for the weekend, people will be delirious to be able to just have their freedom and a great weekend away.
I've never added up the money I've spent on going to GP weekends, but I suspect it would be enough to get me a very decent car...

Still - certainly good to see the covid curtain lifting at long last
I've booked Silverstone and it'll be my first ever live race. Initially tried to do it as cheaply as possible, but then realised I really didn't fancy the general admission queues from 0600 so decided to bite the bullet and upgrade to a grandstand ticket. The difference between GA and grandstand isn't too steep, but children go free with GA so by the time I'd paid for the daughters seat the overall cost was pretty outrageous by the end.
I think we'll only do Silverstone once, in future seasons when all restrictions are lifted we'd prefer to go to some races abroad and get something out of the trip other than the F1 itself. Added bonus being the tickets seem more reasonably priced at other circuits! I really fancy Baku for some reason.

That's a really wise decision to get grandstand seats. You're free to view from any of them on Friday and Saturday, and then for the race, you can show up a few minutes before the start to take your seat, which really does remove a vast amount of stress.I think we'll only do Silverstone once, in future seasons when all restrictions are lifted we'd prefer to go to some races abroad and get something out of the trip other than the F1 itself. It will be interesting to see what capacity they can run at with the social distancing etc.
Silverstone (along with others) have called for vaccine passports to allow higher attendance. I'm not sure that is going to be possible by July and there will be a whole chunk of people that haven't had the second jab (if even the first) so will make it a whole lot more expensive if you have to have a proper paid test result to attend.

Yes the roaming grandstand on Friday/Saturday was one of the things that sold it to me. Sadly can't make the Friday because of school but will be there all day Saturday. I'm just hoping they don't go ahead with the sprint race proposal as I really want to see the cars in quali trim and the proposed change of schedule will move quali to the Friday.£40 buys you a ticket in the stands for a premier league football match. That involves 90 minutes of football in one afternoon of a national torunament.
£295 buys a grandstand ticket at Vale for a World championship .... that includes, Friday / Saturday / Sunday. It includes this year, 3 GP2 races, 2 F1 races (sprint & full length), F1 Qualifying, F1 Practice, GP2 practice / qualifying. Porsche Carrera Cup practice / qualifying / race.
Sidelines include world class air displays, track displays, other trackside rubbish.
Is it expensive then compared to football / rugby / tennis ??????

I agree if you go for the full weekend it represents fair value, but for people only wanting to see the Grand Prix then it's quite expensive as, understandably, the Sunday tickets are more expensive than the other days.£295 buys a grandstand ticket at Vale for a World championship .... that includes, Friday / Saturday / Sunday. When doing a bit of research Silverstone also seems disproportionately expensive compared to Belgium, Spain, Italy to name a few, which is why I'll probably only go once.

I think it's the pricing strategy that makes people think it's expensive. £295 for a grandstand for 3 days is bloody good value, but to take advantage of this, you either need to live very close, or spend further hundreds on hotels/b&b's etc. £295 buys a grandstand ticket at Vale for a World championship .... that includes, Friday / Saturday / Sunday. To turn up for a single day (Sunday) is £255 for the same seat, that's where it gets pricey for a family (easily a thousand pound for a day).
