Hi All,

Looking for some advice. It's my brothers 40th birthday next year and he's an absolute F1 fanatic. I want to take him away for a race in Europe somewhere as he's done Silverstone a dozen times.

I would love to do Spa or Monza but what would be the best value / your recommendations?

appreciate any responses

I would have said Spa, as it's an amazing circuit, but after last year's debacle who knows?

If you’re doing Spa get a grandstand. We did general admission and it was awful, massively overcrowded and about 1 toilet to every 5000 people so the place just became one big toilet.

Austria and Germany are both good ones to go to, especially if the latter is at the Nurburgring

I’ve driven to both and can highly recommend either you will be camping at Spa but that’s part of the experience don’t expect much sleep and bookend the weekend with a decent hotel.

I rather fancy Austria..... I reckon you'll see most of the track from most of the Grandstands...... Also, it's a short track, so the cars come past more often, more laps smile

On the same note, Spa is only 43 odd laps long as it's such a long track, so you won't see the car's as often....

crude logic but I guess when your travelling that far, the more times you see the cars the better!!

Monza is a nice break if you stay up at the lakes.

You can take a fast train in from Como (comes from Switzerland) and there is a free shuttle to the circuit (or drive in)

I would go for Spa as well.

Easy to drive to so helps keep the cost down you can get a small appartment for 2 people at https://www.domainelongpre.be/en/ for a very reasonable price or camp at https://www.eaurouge.nl/.

It is an easy walk from the campsite to the circuit or a drive from Domaine Long Pre.

Other campsites are available but the only other one I have stayed at is https://www.francorchamps-camping.com/ but I cannot bring myself to recommend it.

Monza, sitting in the starting grid bleachers.

Stay in Milan or the Lakes, easy train ride in.

Great atmosphere at the circuit.

Cheap flights, although I've also driven it and taken the train from London via Paris.

Spa - great track, but a PITA to get to, get in and out of, or stay near.

Hungary if you're looking for value, plus Budapest is a lovely city to stay in and explore.

GA tickets and the circuit being in a natural 'bowl' mean that there's a good vantage almost everywhere to see something going on.

Me and the wife went in 2015, food, drink, hospitality and transport were all dirt cheap and really good. Locals were all lovely and the atmosphere at the track was great.

Got some really good shots of the cars going past with only a 200mm lens (on a 1.6x crop body) if that makes any sense to you!

We've done spa twice and Monza once. As a group of 5 guys it was cheaper to rent a villa for the week than hotel it.

Stayed at the top of lake como for monza and a place near the village of 'chode' for spa. Bit of a drive for both but we all didn't mind sharing the drive.

Monza felt more special but Spa had the better views for GA.

Since then we've done Le Mans as it's stupidly cheaper than the F1!

Spa, camp locally and walk to the circuit in the mornings. I took the car through the tunnel. 4 days camping, plus all associated costs for all sessions was cheaper than 1 grandstand seat at silverstone.

Spa, we got coached in from Leige which is where most people not camping stay.

Find your spot early before the other 15,000 join you!

Monza is great if you can get in camping at one of the local schools that open up their fields.

We were camped right next to the circuit.

Or you can join the locals and walk into the park on a Thursday with a sleeping bag and a bivvy bag and hide in the woods smile

Hungary is meant to be the cheapest and has thrown up some interesting races.

Silverstone is enjoyable and you save on travel costs but everything else is expensive, but it can be really hot and dusty and last year my eyes were watering like buggery.

I want to go to Austria next.

If one's appetite was wetted by this price and were, to say try and get tickets and to a race THIS season somewhere in Europe.....where is the most likely to still have a chance at this stage? Would love to take my son to one.

Hungary looks like fantastic value. Does anybody have a recommended site for tickets?

Have done a couple of away races as part of a European holiday and it always felt like better value for money as a result.

Spa G.A tickets have always seemed reasonable value which we wrapped in with doing a Bruges / Spa / Euro Disney / Le Touquet road trip loop. Upside of Spa is well, just being at Spa and the G.A tickets get you to most places on the circuit, downside can obviously be the weather.

Hungary G.A tickets I think are the cheapest of the European races, we flew into Vienna, picked up a hire car, couple of days in and around Vienna, down to Budapest, did the GP and stayed in the centre of town where the teams were based which was good fun, onto Lake Ballaton for a few days and then looped back to Vienna airport to drop the car off and fly back. Upside of Hungary is being near Budapest (20km's or so), downside is G.A ticket doesn't get you access to a lot of decent viewing points on the circuit, its also a bit of an old school circuit now, you get what you pay for basically.

I did general admission at SPA a number of years ago (when I was much younger) and it was great but now I’m in my mid 40’s I honestly don’t think I could be bothered with the camping (very noisy Dutch fans - Jos Verstappen was racing when I first went) and sitting on rubble on a very steep slope to watch the race is not something I would look forward to these days.
I most recently went to the Spanish Grand Prix and stayed in a nice hotel in Barcelona with a pool, got picked up and taken to and from the circuit and had a great view from my grandstand seat. Not the most exciting of races but by far the more enjoyable weekend.

I'd say that the 2021 Hungarian GP was one of the most entertaining in memory for many years actually.

Going there this year, first time, staying there for free (always a plus) and attending all 3 days. Should be fun!
