Thanks for starting this thread OP, I'm 40 next year and was planning to drive to Spa for the F1 and then to the Nurburgring.
Does anyone recommend any local places to stay (nice hotels) within a short drive of the circuit?
Took my dad there for his 70th Birthday, and he got us an AirBNB about an hour away.Does anyone recommend any local places to stay (nice hotels) within a short drive of the circuit?
We didn't bother with going to the circuit on the Friday, and used the time to unload at the digs, and then drive to Germany for a visit to the Nurburgring. He really enjoyed the day out to the circuit and Adenau, and a couple "brisk" laps in the diesel X5
We didn't bother with Grandstand seats, and really enjoyed finding a spot at Poohan to dig the chairs into, and spend the day with a group of Brits, Germans and lots of crazy Dutch.
Not being tied to a grandstand really releases you to stroll and mooch about the whole circuit.
Booked Hungaroring, Budapest for 3 nights.
Airline cancelled return flight, so now staying an extra 2 days to explore the Buda and the Pest.
Great bars, beers and nightlife.

Buda and Pest are great cities with really nice people; honestly one of the friendliest countries I have ever visited.
Add a few words of Hungarian to your vocab; it goes a very long way (bloody hard language)
Surely that is contrary to the great British tradition of speaking s l o w e r and louDER English, whilst becoming demonstrably more irritated...? Add a few words of Hungarian to your vocab; it goes a very long way (bloody hard language)

Not just British, I've recently found. Recently had a stay in hospital, in the ward was a Chinese chap who could barely speak a word of English, and couldn't understand a word that the medical staff were saying to him. I noticed that the doctors, who were all foreign, all resorted to speaking loudly and slowly in English
Do the Le Mans 24 Hrs, it's the 100th anniversary in 2023 so bound to be even more special. £90 for your race ticket for the week (!!!!!!!) and the same for your camping pitch (not per person, per pitch) It's the world's biggest stag do and might make a welcome change to F1, especially with all the new manufacturers returning next year

Glad I found this thread, just been told we are going to Hungry this weekend for my birthday surprise, but due to covid wife had to change flights to Vienna and get car hire. Apparently you need a vignette for both Austria and Hungry. I’m guessing that the Austrian one will come with the hire car, but what do we about Hungry. Do we bother telling the hire company we are going to Hungry, or as it’s all the EU do you need to?
Will report back if It’s a good GP or not as have done Spa and Monza in Europe plus did last GP in Malaysia, Abu Dhabi and Austin twice as it was so good the first time!

I have planned to be going to Monaco this year.....I will let you know how economical that goes !
I’ve priced up Monaco a couple of times. The tickets aren’t too unreasonable, and if you stay a few train stops away and take a packed lunch, you can probably get away with not spending thousands. Just don’t try and eat, drink or stay in Monaco itself! Having now been to the British, Canadian and Monaco GP’s my wife said for the next one I am on my own!

I did Monaco this year. The tickets weren’t cheap but getting to the circuit from Nice each day on the train was €4. I expected the food and drink prices to be extortionate but the stalls were run by local charities - and very well run at that with plenty of staff and not massive queues. Baguettes were €3.50 and beer was €7 which included a €2 deposit on the reusable plastic cup. So lunch for €10 while sitting on the same quayside as the Strolls and their multi million £ yacht.

Certainly beats a £7 burger or £13 pizza at Silverstone this year (both were quite good mind)!Inverness said:

We are currently en route to Budapest by car from UK. We came through Slovenia into Hungary (as came from Venice), and got the vignette for Hungary from a petrol station in Slovenia, though also available at the border. Euro 16 I think it was for 10 days. Oh, take a photo of your license plate as you need to tell the person the reg number and easier to show them. Also double check with your hire car company that you can drive into Hungary. We looked preciously and of 3 hire companies, none allowed travel into Hungary for some odd reasonGassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
