Wow, that’s embarrassing.
I was thinking they’d built a little pond and added the boats with a crane - but it’s actually a totally fake structure made of scaffolding and wood, with a ‘water’ carpet on top. No actual water at all.
Given that Miami is built on ground like Swiss cheese, give it a few years and the rising sea levels will do the rest.I was thinking they’d built a little pond and added the boats with a crane - but it’s actually a totally fake structure made of scaffolding and wood, with a ‘water’ carpet on top. No actual water at all.

Someone seriously needs to dress up as Jesus and walk across it while the race is on…I was thinking they’d built a little pond and added the boats with a crane - but it’s actually a totally fake structure made of scaffolding and wood, with a ‘water’ carpet on top. No actual water at all.

F1 | Mercedes: unloaded front wing and 3 kg of lightness
The team from Brackley is working tirelessly in an attempt to limit the negative effects of porpoising that limit the potential of the W13. While waiting to find out what's new on the Silver Arrow as it continues its slimming treatment, here's the first image of the front wing designed to reduce drag on the Miami straights.
At Mercedes, they are convinced they have found the keys to the W13's lack of competitiveness and are working hard to try and revive the fortunes of the world Constructors' champion team. The team from Brackley were convinced they had a car with extreme aerodynamics that should have given them an advantage of one second per lap.
The facts proved that this was not the case and, indeed, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell found themselves third force with the Silver Arrow paying a gap to Red Bull and Ferrari of six to seven tenths per lap.
For Mercedes engineers, the main difficulties stem from the exaggerated frequency of the porpoising that brings the nefarious jumping almost all the way into the corners, while on the Ferrari it wears off much sooner as top speeds drop.
While we wait to find out what Mike Elliott's engineers have prepared for the fifth event of the season (there is talk of a 3kg weight reduction), we have to content ourselves with observing the W13's front wing, which was designed for the almost 2km long Miami straight.
Mercedes W13, front wing detail
Giorgio Piola's picture taken in the paddock shows how the adjustable flap has been redesigned to reduce drag: in particular, the incidence has been reduced in the portion that goes from the nose to the support brackets, while the trailing edge has been reshaped with clearly visible material removals that make the profile very shaped.

So this is a street circuit, with high speeds and multiple long DRS zones. I haven't seen images yet, but what are the run-offs like? I'm sure it's signed off as safe but, from an eye with an admittedly limited view of things so far, it seems potentially riskier than many other circuits.

There's a link to a virtual lap earlier in the thread, worth a lookup.Basically somewhere between Jeddah and Azerbaijan from what I can see
Decent virtual hot lap here which gives a good idea of the circuit. Runs off with be slightly different IRL obviously. https://youtu.be/fwvDwvDAi-A?t=7. Based on the track map and that video, turns 13-14-15-16 (1:01 in the video) look like an easy place to stuff it into the barrier. Big direction changes with braking and absolutely no run-off room.
