Can't be any worse than Perez? Looks to me like Red Bull/RB should have snapped up Colapinto. vaud said:

With RB looking like dropping to 3rd in the constructors championship what about Danny Ric to replace Perez until the end of the season?
Why? DR is done, he won't be driving F1 again, unless it's some promotional day for Red Bull, why do people still have this thing for him.

Oddly I would say Lawson to RB and C and T at VCarb... Will depend on how much power Honda has I guess going forward.....
Nothing odd about it. The vcarb drive is just an interview for the big team. Wouldn’t be surprised if they do it before the end of the season even. Just then depends whether hadjar gets the vcarb seat or someone else. TheDeuce said:

The only reason they didn't replace Perez in the summer was that they didn't have a better option - Ricciardo wasn't performing when Horner expected him to.
I expect a change for next year if Lawson continues to do well in the RB over the coming races.
If that does play out, it'll be Verstappen and Lawson in the RBR and Tsunoda alongside Colapinto/Hadjar in the RB.

Presumably Tsunoda would go to RBR then, with Lawson and C at Alpha Tauri?
That’s my guess as well.vaud said:

Rumors are that they are looking at that.If Lawson impresses over the remaining five races then they have to get rid of Perez, put Lawson alongside Max and then get an up and coming driver for the second RB seat alongside Tsunoda.
No way is Ricciardo ever coming back, they now need to get Perez to join him.

He's hardly in F1 on merit.

He's not going to Red Bull Racing - that much is clear.
Nothing will be decided until the end of the season, they'll want to give it as long as possible, if Lawson proves consistent then he will probably get the drive. Harsh on Yuki as he's sat in the B team for a long time now and often finishes "best of the rest" outside the top 5 teams.
I'm not really sure why everyone bangs on about Checo's nationality being a deciding factor. Red Bull are a massive brand, being at the front of the grid and winning races and championships is going to be far more effective when it comes to flogging energy drinks than what it says on their driver's passports.
Are people really that shallow? If they ditch Checo will sales really drop off that much in the Mexican market? When Mercedes signed Hamilton was the driving factor the hope they could sell a load more nasty little white hatchbacks in the UK market?

I think the answer is yes. RB get huge cash from Carlos Slim for Checo and I’m sure decent revenue from merch sales. Mercedes previously attributed £4bn in marketing benefit from f1. Think back to what the brand was pre Lewis in the 2010s. It was an old man car brand. Now it’s anything but.

You can think what you like about Red Bull Racing but it's a fact that they are there to win, not to come second.

Are you sure about this? I see no sign that this is true. If it was true they would put the best possible driver in car #2. You don't invest billions in a race team over many seasons to accept second place so you get "more wind tunnel time" and flog more drinks in South America.
RB are using F1 as a marketing tool, no more, no less. Any publicity they get is great, regardless if positive or negative.

It's also not just Mexico, he can and does engage in Spanish via several channels, including TV adverts, which is useful for various brands/sponsors. Whatever the message, it's obviously useful if it can be communicated to such a huge proportion of the planet by a guy who speaks the lingo as a first language.
