Monaco in the dry, isn't a great race unless someone bins it.

Monaco in the wet/damp is a great race however! Mainly because it changes the strategy and increases the chance of mistakes.

Hoping for a strong showing from Ferrari & Mclaren (a boy can dream). Will more likely be a toss up between the Bulls and Ferrari - although RBR's straight line advantage will be less of a thing here compared to Ferrari's higher downforce config.

Mercedes have been said to be strong in the low-medium speed stuff before Spain, so if they truly have got a handle of the porpoising it will be interesting to see how they stack up against the top 2.

Anyone know the weather forecast?
Forecasts seem all over the place. Some are suggesting maybe a storm on Saturday, but others are saying bright and sunny. Most suggest a small possibility of a light shower on Sunday, but no more than that.

A paltry 3 wins. What a loser! smile
Compared to 8 wins at Silverstone and Hungary, 7 wins in Canada...

Monaco is statistically one of his worst tracks.

There's an underlying theme starting that Ferrari's engines are pretty fragile.

Barca was the first race of CLC's 2nd engine unit - we know the turbo and MGUH are toast but I wonder when we'll find out if the engine ingested any bits of Turbo...

Also, the Ferrari units in the Alfa's keep failing - Bottas is already on his 3rd and last Turbo and MGU-H

If CLC has to take his 3rd and final engine of the season at Monaco that almost guarantees penalties later on.

CLC is also now on his 3rd and final Turbo and MGUH - which again almost guarantees penalties at some point.

Meanwhile both RBs are still on their first allocation of every element - excellent work so far from Honda.

Chain Bear on YouTube came up with a few 'alternative' options to making Monaco a more interesting race:

Skip to 1:50 to miss the sponsors bit at the start.

The 1996 race was utterly bonkers, I was watching from Rascasse. Schumacher binned it on the first lap, David Coulthard was circulating in a Schumacher helmet in the McLaren which was very confusing and there were many other thrills and spills only for Panis to win. What a day that was and in those days the paddock was not so restricted so a lot of fun was had after the race nipping over the road to the team hospitality too..Gerhard Berger was such a joker!

You could definitely hear the turbo let go and then de-spool on Charles' car whilst the ICE kept running.

If it was the exhaust side, their won't be much harm of ingestion, but if it was the compressor - probably some squeaky bum time at Maranello!

On turbos, do each engine manufacturer build their own, or is it a unit supplied by say Garrett to all teams?

Each team will have a different supplier as they will have a different configuration.

Mercedes for a long time were the only team with the long shaft split turbo with the MGU-H mounted in the vee.

Ferrari started with the turbo being split and the MGU-H between the two parts, but with the whole package mounted at the rear of the vee - I think they are now running the long-shaft turbo style for this year.

Honda initially started with an axial flow compressor mounted wholly within the vee, but didn't generate enough boost so moved to the long shaft concept quite quickly.

The only PU supplier I'm not so sure on is Renault - they started with a conventional turbo with the MGU-H mounted off the back of it at the rear of the engine. Not sure if they have changed their approach.

I wonder if the fact we heard the turbo fail so clearly gives a clue as to which part of the turbo failed - of they're running the long shaft split turbo design. Might be the exhaust side if the mics are at the rear of the car.

Hell of a quali lap he put in one year. 2019 I think..? Lost the back end at one point but still somehow got P1. The subsequent race max drove into the back of him such was his determination to pass. Lewis won that one.

I guess he could have won in 2016 too were it not for his team mate bringing out the reds in quali..

Well I've gone for Leclerc on the grounds that me jinxing him again won't matter since he never finishes his home race.

Really would love some intermittent rain during the race to make it interesting ..

Anybody bringing any upgrades or is that a waste of time at Monaco?

Granted but just seemed a strange thing to mention. He's won more times there than anyone else on the grid. Doubt his car will get him in the mix this year though. I'd like to be wrong.

As in, live in Monaco?

LeClerc is actually the only Monagasque.

I'm going to make a wild prediction of a Bottas podium this weekend. The Alfa looked pretty good through the last sector in Spain and it does have some similarity to Monaco with it being mostly low speed corners.

Sad to see that Monaco have abandoned their traditional Friday is market day. Those monagasque market stall holders must be gutted.

Such a boring spectacle Monaco is...however it is always hyped up due to the gliz and glamour surrounding it.

Like i mentioned before id rather have the Salkhi GP or the portugese GP rather than Monaco.

Was allright years ago but with these mahoosive cars there is no overtaking.

Will still watch just incase something happens...never know mercedes might win and start the netflix come back

Yep, a home race has to at least be the country you live in full time as of when you became an F1 driver, if not ideally the country of birth.

The fact half the grid spend six months a year claiming residency in Monaco doesn't count.

Not that Monaco being Charles' home race has been anything to brag about thus far. The worst weekends of his career all took place there!
