The Official F1 2023 silly season *contains speculation*
Discussion
I'm sorry but Schumacher, nice enough as he is is an utter embarrassment in an F1 car. The whole "one year to learn and one year to perform" bullst is just that. That even he is now saying he deserves longer as his first year learning doesn't count as this year is with new cars is quite frankly beyond the pale.
He's had his ass handed to him by a Kevin Magnussen. Kevin's no slouch but c'mon! He was without a drive since 2020 and joined the team without even testing.

I'm a Mick fan still hoping he can get it together this season, but is it as easy as HAAS saying that is it pal your out? He's an FDA driver, Ferrari must be paying for him to be there somehow, HAAS get rid of him HAAS will loose either payment or support or something surely.
I doubt that, the risk is on FDA and they'll pass him back to some other (non F1) program. It's not like FDA have some long term family money thing with the Schumi's. I'm sure lots of emotional history and willingness to make it work, but if it isn't working it's not like some rich daddy has a paddy about it. Pflanzgarten said:

His previous team mate took that awardhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ukLvgrCkUc

Has he? Kevin has finished in front of Mick 3 times, Mick has finished in front of Kevin 3 times, no counting Monaco as that was a double DNF. OK yeh in quali its different but I wouldn't say that's having your ass handed to you. Kevin has 7 seasons of F1 experience behind him, Mick has 1 season of dawdling around at the back in a year old car with no development and another rookie as a team mate to learn off. All the other rookies have come into teams with experienced drivers a long side time, HAAS also made some bad decisions recently not pitting him when ever body else around him went in for new tyres etc.
I know right now he doesn't deserve it but I'd like to see him at a different team, think it will be a different outcome. Not saying hell all of a sudden be a WC contender but having watched him in F2 and F3 he knows how to drive.

I think a big factor is that he's pretty much out on his own too. Were his Dad around I have no doubt he would have the benefit of his huge experience and guidance to help him along. I know he's close to Vettel but Seb has his own issues to deal with. I have sympathy for Mick. All the other rookies have come into teams with experienced drivers a long side time, HAAS also made some bad decisions recently not pitting him when ever body else around him went in for new tyres etc.

That is vastly over simplifying the results. Whenever mick has finished above kevin, neither have scored points and two out of three times kevin was one place behind. The other three that kevin finished above, he finished in the points-something Mick so far has found impossible to do.
All looking more and more likely that Oscar Piastri will be replacing Nicolas Latifi at Williams.

Depending on if Latifi gets dropped mid-season, Albon would be a great tutor for Piastri. Then just bide his time with consistent results until a top team comes calling... Hopefully!cgt2 said:

Outperform your team mate, throw in the occasional blinding quali and/or race and don't fk up too badly.
If you're genuinely fast, other team managers will come knocking. If you're not, well, the lack of people chasing your signature tells you you're not good enough for a top team.
I think Piastri is easily as capable as Russell, and would shine in the Williams. I'd rather he is in the Williams, than not in F1.
I think it's good for a new driver to land in a car with low expectations, at least for one year. If expectations are low then it's easier to manage their profile.
At least I think it is valid in an era with almost not testing. The first year is then just a very extended testing.
Arguably Russell should have been promoted sooner.

Looking at their lower formula results, I suspect Piastri may be a better tutor for AlbonGassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
