Pretty stty from Mclaren tbh
yes

And they’ve done the same in Indycar, with someone having to make way for Alex Palou next year, and Palou’s existing team insisting he remains under contract with them.

I wonder if the delay in sorting out Ricciardo, was to make sure the Piastri contract was completely watertight? It would be karma if they ended up with only Norris legally signed.

To be honest, I thought better of Zak Brown than to be playing these games with drivers. It’s not the 1990s any more.

Australasia must operate a one out one in policy with F1 drives.

Because he didn't want to be number 2 driver to Verstappen. The only reason Checo is so loved by the team is because he knows when to hold up the other drivers and when to get out of the way and let Max through.

Ricciardo was never going to do that, Checo would never bite the hand that feeds him.

Only drive for next year is likely Hass..alongside Kmag.

That’s harsh on Checo, he’s been bought in to deliver the WCC, and he’s doing alright with it, even got a contract extension, a Monaco victory..

Perhaps the Newey cars flattered him.

But lets be honest, Checo would never be allowed to take victory if there was any way Max could win instead. Look at the Spanish Grand Prix where he was told to let Max through when he was in the lead.

As for Monaco, I wonder how it would have gone if Max had managed to get past Sainz?

Happens all the time.

Sauber tried to ditch Giedo van der Garde for the 2015 season and had to settle out of court.

2018 Azerbaijan GP Horner & Marko decided Max Verstappen's arse tasted much better than Danny Ricc's even though Max was as much to blame and arguably more to blame for crashing into each other.

I'm not sure that's true at all.

I think he was performing at a higher relative level at RB than he is now. In his last season he finished 6th in the WDC, only 80pts behind Max. Max finished 4th, 160pts behind Hamilton, for context.

By contrast we're halfway through 2022 and he's already almost 60pts behind Lando.

Danny has a better win ratio than Perez, which I find quite interesting. Given that Perez has spent a few seasons in a championship-competitive car, you'd have expected more than 3 wins.

Potentially does go some way to support the theory that he's a better wingman.

Say max Verstappen never happened and riciardo stayed at red bull-do you think he would have been 2021 world champion?

He was actually ahead of Max in the WDC when his move was announced in the summer break that year. After that he had a run of retirements, mostly mechanical, and ended the season with 8 DNFs to Max's 3. If you were looking for a conspiracy you might think he wasn't given the best equipment after telling the team he was leaving.

Edit to mention that he also finished ahead of Max in 2017 and 2016 (even if you count only the races when they were in the same team). So up until the point in time he decided to leave he had always been ahead of Max.

Brutal to announce it before he’s sorted out his next drive.

Where can Ricciardo go though?

Who else is out of a contract at the end of this year?

Just because it’s not announced doesn’t mean it’s not sorted.

Nearly as brutal as him finding out about it by Piastri’s Tweeting, Brown having talked positively about the Australian only the week before.

We have no idea what has been agreed in the background leading to a press release.

I have been involved in multi-party press releases and generally there is a lot of review from both parties before release, and it includes a large quote from Daniel so I assume he was happy with it.

And the prospect of being paid some % of his 2023 salary depending if he gets another drive...

Haas, Williams and Alpine all have seats that are open to negotiation.

For anyone else, contracts need to be bought out or performance clauses exercised.

Who’s open at Williams, Albon or Latifif?

What about Alphatauri?
