I live in Canada and have a home in the US for winter so not Anti-American.

Yet, when I think of Spa with its great beauty and history I would hate it to be an automotive Disneyland.

It is one of the greatest place I have ever had the privilege to drive on. If it loses F1,then so be it. The Nordschleife lost F1 and is doing fine, and the stupid attempt to add all the family nonsense there failed.

Better that Spa does not yield too far.

I hate the Americanisation of the world, homogenous shopping centres and brands all over the globe which people are conditioned into thinking are somehow prestigious.

What does this actually mean? Piss weak beer and fat blokes only or turning the whole event in to an entertainment event at the expense of the sport?

It's just a natural sharing of cultures in a connected world. Being bought up on American films and TV shows has had an impact here and around the world. And more so now with the internet of course.

There are upsides too though. People always complain about F1 being a disgrace for going to middle eastern venues.. but in a positive way that activity does its bit to transit western values there too. A slow process but mixing of cultures with generally the best bits remaining is proven through millennia.

And why should F1 not be more Americanised? The British/Europeans had the same opportunity to buy it.

Scandalous if it were to happen but let’s imagine the grid line up if Spa became a non-championship round. The idea is to then plug (genuinely) rookie F1 drivers into the cars - so most of this year’s reserve drivers won’t qualify as a consequence of their previous F1 experience.

I’ll start with Oscar Piastri in an Alpine and Colton Herta in a McLaren. Anyone brave enough to offer other suggestions ? I wouldn’t trust any of the current F2 guys around a potentially wet Spa in a GP car.

Thinking about it, if the current superlicence rules apply, it is probably impossible to populate a full grid…
