After Ferrari’s strategic masterclass, we’re onto Hungary for round 13, the last race before the summer break. It will be hot and twisty, a real tyre shredder, so perhaps its the best (only?) chance for a win this season for Mercedes. Ocon will need another miracle to match last year’s win, Verstappen will be hoping that there’s no repeat of the Bottas bowling ball.

My money is on Red Bull again, the RB18 will be there or there abouts and the team are right on point just now.

Here’s to a great race!

Date(s): Friday 29 to Sunday 31 July 2022.

I think it's hard to view anyone other than Verstappen as favourite anywhere now. That Redbull is just too good and even when Ferrari have the race pace to challenge, they consistently find a way to mess things up.

Hungary has been known to throw in some odd results.

Haas bringing their new car to Hungary, apparently a 'white Ferrari'...

Also good article for about what I was saying in the previous thread - that the RB being developed away from Perez is just how race cars get faster, its not specifically 'for Max' as several posters where saying.

Ahh good - back to a proper circuit!

And after this, the summer break leads straight back into Europe for a triple header. We're perhaps entering the most interesting phase of this season smile

And maybe even some shifting of the order at the top as the new floor tests have their impact, although who knows how effective that might prove to be.

Here's hoping it all comes down to the nail on the final lap of the AD GP again whistle

Usually a decent race, everything crossed for the stars to alight and Hamilton to break the ‘300 curse’ this weekend on one of his favourite tracks.

Looking forward to this one, I think we'll see a Max DNF and Perez on the top step

Thanks PIAP. Quality post as usual!

As someone pointed out last race, your GP Threads are a legendary stand-out in the F1 thread! (btw, I accept all the usual..., cash, cheques, Paypal, dominatrix services, backhanded compliments, etc biggrin )

Barring some bizarre accident I can’t see Mercedes’ winning a single race this season now. There’s now even talk they might need to sacrifice ‘23 as well to have a push in 2024.

Ferrari have announced they're aiming for a "1-2 at Hungary this weekend". Possibly the most pointless press announcement ever.

laugh

I'm guessing RB's straight line speed advantage will be negated somewhat but Ferrari will still conspire to fk it up.

Merc to get 2 in the top 5 again and eat into Ferrari's WCC lead.

If I've worked it out right Verstappen can win here and in Spa with Leclerc 2nd and after that all he has to do is follow the Ferrari home and still be WDC. And that's if Ferrari don't arse up finishing second.

I was about to moan that Hungary has a rep for being impossible to overtake on, so qualifying will be key. But then I remembered all the utterly soulless boring circuits and was quite happy that an old school circuit is on this weekend. After all the blue and red lines last week, this will be quite refreshing.

Verstappen pole and win, with something odd in the mix like Seb Vettell or Mick Schumacher in the top four wouldn't surprise me here.

So long as they can remember how to do pit stops and strategy, maybe a possibility?

I reckon Lewis sees a possible win this weekend, the track and conditions should suit Mercedes.

I think that's been pretty clear for a while, however there have been quite a lot of Bizarre accidents this year. They've shown that they have the pace at some tracks to keep within a pit-stop of the top two teams which makes it much more likely they'll get the luck they need to get a win.
