there is, indeed, a pattern. You go up against Max in the same car, you will quickly/eventually get obliterated. Bernie Collins made the same remark at the weekend.
Ricciardo was certainly not getting obliterated.

Ricciardo seems to be a shadow of what he was then. I think he'd be blown away by Verstappen now.

Both wrong then - DR was never 'obliterated' but he was unhappy enough to leave. That disproves the cause for the pattern as being down to Max's driving ability.

I'm sure getting pummelled doesn't help of course.. But I don't think that's the whole story.
Perez is perfect as a wing man - he just needs to score more points.
How is Perez perfect as a wingman? A wingman should be right behind the main man, not half a lap behind.

Yes, it's really very simple.

This is how that's done:

Perez isn't just behind though, he might as well be in a different race most weekends.

Agreed, I really don't think he has what it takes to be in the Red Bull with Max. I suspect this is his last season in F1 and hopefully Liam Lawson will take over the seat.

Unless he has some seriously good blackmail on Horny.

Red Bull are in a very strange situation where despite the junior RB team they actually have nobody to take over the second Red Bull seat.

Concerned about revenue... I can bet that the Red Bull board will also be concerned about a loss of revenue if they lose the valuable (in $ terms) Spaniard.

If you have a product to flog and you don't need the second driver to be stellar, stick a Spaniard in the car. I'm not saying it's nice, but, there is history in the sport of having a chap the Spanish speaking countries can rally behind.

Not sure what to think about the Verstappens being told Perez was out. Perhaps Horny and the one eyed monster hadn't made a final decision, but couldn't be arsed debating it with Max and his Dad confused

Given the ownership structure, I'm not sure how much influence the board has.

I slipped that time! Previously I have referred to 'Spanish speaking' which in terms of appeal in Spanish speaking countries is the important/valuable bit.

Second most widespread language in the world, it's obviously handy if you have a driver that can appeal to so many people and do their bit to attract and keep sponsors happy.

I've said this before. For a team that is so tough on it's juniors the seniors are getting away with all kinds of poor performance that wouldn't be tolerated for a couple fo race weekends let alone entire seasons!

Part of the problem is not wanting to put anyone too good in with Max. Sainz should have that seat every day of the week - good enough to win when he's in the mood but probably not as good over a season as Max.

What does redbull junior mean?
You decide to sponsor some kids . Some with more obvious skill than others.
If non of them seem particularly great its not still an automatic promotion to the big drive because you did your time.
Remember when they binned off Buemi and the dj dude after putting them in F1 ?
Mindful of that damage to them when they though they had made it , RedBull seem more cautious now.
Obviously they did a nasty to Devries , but he wasn't a red bull jr driver.
Imagine DR could have driven a mclaren properly. Devries could have had an F1 career.
