Lando must be hoping that Lewis retires at the end of this season, it’s his best chance to ever get into a winnable car.
Which car is that?

Zak's issue is that he took over a team with no money and a bunch of ancient out of date assets. It was always going to take a huge amount of time to turn round. I think (hope) its heading in the right direction. I think the first car that comes soley from the new wind tunnel will be the acid test
I hope that they do make a resurgence, although it won't be easy.

McLaren have been my fave F1 favorite team since my Dad worked for them when they were at Poyle Trading Estate in Colnbrook/Datchet. As an impressionable kid I sat in their car outside their factory, imagining...
Nice story, and yes it’s sad to see them slip so far down the grid this season.

They have to hope that the new wind tunnel can do the job, but the difficult bit is setting it up and correlating the results. I wonder if they might first so something with it that isn’t an F1 car, just for the fine tuning?

Another weird anti Fred comment.

I don't get them, Fred is very simple, work with him and he's magic, work against him and he gets upset, pretty much like anybody else.

As far as I see Mclaren are fully accepting of where they are and why they are there.

Change of topic comment incoming. The young lad Piastri has definitely rattled Lando. Who would have thought a rookie would do an LH on him?

Back on topic, sorry smile

It's hard to tell with the car being a pup, but I doubt he's rattled by his teammate. More likely rattled by the team's uncompetitiveness yet again. For all we know they could be on wildly different setups while they try to find a path forward. Piastri can at least drive the car properly, which is more than his predecessor could.

Has he? Im not sure ive seen any evidence of that?

He's shown what a poor Job DR was doing that's for sure. Carlos kept Lando honest, Piastri looks like he will too.

Please can you explain your reasoning to say that Piastri has 'rattled' Lando?

I see nothing of the sort.

If that direction is straight down to the bottom, it's going swimmingly well.

I'm glad.

I didn't like Lando's comment in DTS "I already am" (team leader).

I see nothing of the sort.
2 instances that I noticed. The first was when he was watching the qualifying session towards the end of q1 - he was engrossed and then turned on his heels when OP qualified for q2. That was telling. The second was when he was commenting that he was asked to move over for OP to catch and overtake Sargent, which he couldn’t. He acknowledged a good job by OP but his body language told a different story.

Ah, I see - No reasoning......just twaddle about 'telling' body language.

Lando hasn't been rattled at all. It's two races in and the car is st. He's more worried about that than anything Piastri is doing.

Maybe mclaren can get it together during the piastri contract but he must know he would be more competetive in the williams or alpine.
So funny for webber and coulthard who have spent a few seasons trying to 'retire' Alonso so they could slot the 'next big thing' into a seat.
As for Key,did he buld his rep when torro rosso were getting advice from the main team. They have been st since doing ther own thing.

McLaren departures and appointments is starting to feel like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

I'd love them to prove me wrong but it feels like Norris is being wasted there with a promise of future performance that might never ever come.
Yep, Seidl and now Key, two deckchairs on the sinking ship.

Lando must be hoping that Lewis retires at the end of this season, it’s his best chance to ever get into a winnable car.
George and Lando, in a Mercedes cars that's had its issues ironed out would be a terrific prospect. I would very much like to see that.

I'd like very much to see Lewis and George fight it out in a sorted car first. Primarily I am a Lewis fan but, just like the Nico years, I would like to see L&G head-to-head equally. I think that due to his age, and Russell's ability, it would be close run.......and that is exciting. New blood, old blood. Ergo, new broom only sweeps clean, but the old broom knows every crevice and corner......

Then, let Lando and Russell spar...........just as exciting and with (potentially) more credence.!

Max and Checo is a given (obviously) to the teams and drivers - and sadly, is piss poor example for any sport.

Zak needs to be team principal or leave.

He’s the charismatic leader but he’s elevated himself too high forming a committee underneath him.
He strikes me as a puddle-deep windbag. Does he really understand much about all this?

Webber and Alonso are good mates so don't think he's been trying to 'retire' him.

Piastri, if he's as good as suspected, made the best move possible in going to McLaren.

If he went to Alpine and beat Ocon people would be mildly interested.

If he beats Lando he's probably made himself the prime candidate to replace Lewis when he hangs up the gloves. There's a big big difference there.

Whether he finishes 11th with a McLaren or 8th in an Alpine is irrelevant right now. His only goal should be/will be beating Lando.

This is true. I’m definitely not a fan of OP, especially after all of that Alpine nonsense, but the lad has motorsport pedigree, more so than Lando, so it’s all up for grabs - the car’s woes is just a side show.
