A good effort from Allan McNish there. Freddie did the right thing and stayed a free agent as long as possible, he didn’t need the money to go racing, but at some point you want to be in line to start a serious F1 testing programme, which he’ll get with Audi.

Presumably they’ve outbid several others for his services, but we’re in the situation where McLaren and Mercedes have got their drivers lined up for the next decade, Ferrari have good juniors coming up, and no-one really wants to be in the Red Bull programme if they can possibly avoid it.

I had a meet-&-greet evening talk with Louis Sharp last night and he mentioned that Freddie's Audi development driver deal costs $45 million over three years... not sure what he meant by that; whether Freddie has had to bring $45 million of investment/sponsorship money to Audi, or that's what Audi's total investment in his development programme will be over the three years... I'm assuming the latter.

Louis also mentioned last night that it costs $2.9 million to run one season in F3.

I'd like to see the maths on that $45 million!

Google suggests that a season of f/gp 2 is $3million... so even 3 seasons of that is $12m .... Even if he is in the sim or training every day I can't see that costing $33m !

For a spec car with an engine that rarely breaks it's still an absurd amount of money . God , how I miss the days when F3 wasn't the support act to the support act but the British series you could see at your local circuit, usually with at least three future F1 drivers

Started seeing him pop up on socials now...

I just checked to see how he is getting on and noticed that F3 only has 9 races per season!

Every weekend has a sprint and a feature race. But in 2003 British F3 had 24 races.

Shame that British Feature race. De Palo brake tested Slater twice, particularly wrongly in Luffied. Dirty. Would be surprised if Slater had damage at the end.

It's the performance that matters though.

They only qualify once, on Friday.

The Sprint on Saturday is a reverse-grid race with the top 12 reversed.

First FIA F3 Feature race win today, and he leads the championship into the summer break. Quite the season for far.

Only a couple of race weekends left, so a good time to take the championship lead. They won’t be caught by Nael who’s third.
