Two races driving away from the field in pole. 2nd looks less dominant because of the safety car, but he’s started the season looking much faster than his competitors.
Third race this afternoon will give him a chance to battle through the field.

Slater has certainly looked the part whatever series. One I am keeping a very close eye on. I can see him becoming a future WDC if he does not falter.

His pole lap was half a second quicker than P2..The next five cars were separated by half a second in total.

That was rather clumsy, but then he is only 16. There's no doubting his pace.

If he keeps this up, it'll be interesting to see how he progresses in the more senior categories. One has to imagine he'll be in F2 for the '27 season unless something derails him.

Wasn't in the plan. It's a good plan too. He's being managed to try as many different series as possible. He's doing formula regional this weekend but GB3 is the main focus.

He'll no doubt be in FIA F3 next year, all things going to plan.

GB3 might be a bit too easy for Slater. Last to 9th (SC interfered for 3 laps). Last to 8th (SC interfered again). Last to 1st, no race interruptions.

Does he have the backing to go up the ladder to F3 and F2? He seems like an outstanding talent. It would be a shame if his career stalls without the funding to show his far he can go.

Edit: after posting that I remembered this was discussed earlier. Money shouldn’t be an issue.

Now FRECA champion with 1 race to go.

It was quite close though and he had a few unexplained not-so-great performances. No mention of car, setup or tyre issues etc. Just lacked a bit of pace.

I guess it's all getting a bit harder now...

FIA F3 next year so I probably won't have to keep posting updates now!

FIA F3 is covered in the F1 Support Races Thread, which was started to keep spoilers out of the main F1 race threads.

Definitely keep this one running to discuss his performances though, will be great if you picked out an F1 driver five years beforehand.

It goes without saying that FIA F3 is seriously competitive, a lot of teenagers who all think they’re the next Verstappen or Hamilton, who have earned an international licence and raised a couple of million in sponsorship. FRECA’s also very competitive though, and he’s just won that!

I'm always on the lookout for the next British F1 hope. Spotted Norris in GJ (F4 confirmed it) JB after the FF festival at Brands and Hamilton (THAT wet race in F Renault). Thought it was about time I got something it writing!

Been wrong before though. I had Dan Cammish for F1 after during THAT F4 season but he didn't get the funding. And I missed Russell completely until GP3. Not complaining mind you!

Slater was way better than Linblad in karting (pace, overtaking, racecraft etc.) and Linblad will go to F1 unless he messes up royally next year...

What I like about Slater is he has avoided any F1 driver programme affiliation. I reckon this is to, hopefully, get a load of notoriety so he can then pick his F1 team based on their prospects which could be a shrewd way to do it.

Yes I agree that you really don’t want to be signed to a team at this stage, if you can possibly avoid it.

I used to think the opposite, but then I saw what happened with Piastri and Alpine, and the horrendous nature of the Red Bull programme dumping numerous drivers without giving them a decent chance.

It’s better if you can get your own sponsorship and coaching until perhaps F2, and then make a decision. FIA F3 and F2 are seriously expensive for the unaffiliated driver though, with long-haul flyaway races. IIRC $2m and $3.5m a season respectively. There’s also a lot of younger drivers established in F1 teams, McLaren being a good example, that could stay there for a decade or more.
