Volatile times for the FIA, we are something like approaching 3 of 4 years term of MBS being in charge from what I can see?
That's what we thought about Trump

I think it's four years. He was voted in in 2021, so who knows if next year there's someone else to vote for.

Joe Saward mentioned on Twitter that he was told about the sacking two weeks ago, and that conspiracy theorists should look at Austin for a reason.

Nothing springs to mind, so make of that what you will.

Yep, four years and can serve multiple terms. Todt did three terms if memory serves.

Ah ok, but presumably he has to be voted in?

Austin..? I can't think of anything the race director could have got wrong there.. no contentious flags or anything.

Lando's penalty was harsh but not upto the RD.

Anyone got a theory...?

And now Paolo Basarri the governing body’s compliance officer has gone.

Something odd is happening that's for sure

It’s only odd if you view the FIA through the lens of a professional organisation working for the best outcomes of the sport it governs.

It makes perfect sense if, on the other hand, you view it through the lens of a small, third world nation with valuable natural assets that has recently been taken over by a tinpot dictator.

When are the FIA elections? Is this a more simple clearout of anyone that has info/poses a threat to reputation?

You only need the first part. Whilst MBS does appear to be completely unsuitable for the role of President and is making things worse you could argue this is just the FIA reverting to type after the bureaucratic Todt years. The Mosley and Balestre FIA's were not paragons of professionalism.

Next year. According to Nick Daman on this week's Midweek Motorsport there are no challengers to MBS.

That’s disappointing.

Is it..? Disappointing suggests there was other expectation.

When MBS was under threat from several directions, including the Wolffs, and a whistle blower, he received a convenient public letter of support for his continued governance, signed by several presidents of FIA remote organisations.

It would be wrong to suggest that the support of those underlings was anything other than genuine, of course. But it wouldn't be wrong to consider that such support came at a very convenient time, from people that all seemed to have either something to lose or something to gain in their own local area that could only be aided by continued positive support from the FIA.

So far as I can see, there is no outright evidence that the FIA or their current President are beholden to any power other than themselves. They appear able to 'do a deal' no matter the upset caused when things go wrong, they also have the power to change the rules, such that certain things might go in a way that they prefer. The teams whose sporting activity they govern all have something to lose or gain too, depending on their level of cooperation with what the FIA desire - as do the press.

I'm not suggesting anything in particular, just musing upon the notion that the FIA only actually answers to those that are motivated to not disagree, not upset the apple cart. I suppose the ME investment in the sport has been considerable, it's worth billions - which would make MBS something of an apple cart best not upset too.

I suspect MBS will remain until he nominates his replacement, who will receive endless support.

Not really, sounds like good news. Got fed up of another team/driver dominating for ages so it’ll be good they mix it up again.

Ahh, that's a good point. Instead of the team/driver that does best winning a racing series designed to work out who's best, even if it happens to be the same combination several years in a row... it would be better if the sports governing body stepped in and selected a different winner to keep it fresh?

Like at school sports day, everyone gets a prize smile

rofl

I can’t tell if you two are taking the piss or genuinely believe that Benny has been anything other than an unmitigated disaster literally from day one - an impressive streak of dumbfkery he's somehow managed to maintain throughout his tenure.

But hey, you’re entitled to your opinion, no matter how wrong it is I guess hehe
