It was never a long term position, the main issue currently is not something Newey or any TP can fix. They need a PU that functions.
Sucks for Honda because even though they were tasked with refactoring their PU late in the day by Newey, any improvement to AM's form will be credited to him and whoever comes in as TP. Honda really did get the shaft, publicly.

There is nothing official to show that's true regarding the redesign.

AM have certainly shafted Honda in public though, just as Red Bull did with Renault. Not a good long term strategy or way to treat a partner.

I have no real idea what's wrong with the Honda engine, but knowing Japanese corporations it'll be 2 yrs before it's competitive, if at all.

Frankly I think there's a serious risk Honda will pull out again at the end of this year.
It's about time for their biennial exit from F1...

They've only just got here. I don't think they'll be going anywhere in this rules cycle. They'll just slowly sort themselves out, like they did last time, probably just in time for the next big rule change.

I don't think Newey and Stroll will let them do anything slowly.......

It certainly looks like Aston is doing everything they can to drive Honda away from F1.
Well a cynic might suggest that would be a fine plan as then another manufacturer would be required to supply them with an engine. Which would be one that works a lot better....

I doubt it would fit in the incredibly tight space that Newey has allowed. Which one suspects is probably a large reason for the poor performance of said engine

Mid season engine change would be very difficult, but getting rid of Honda for 2027 could be the target.

Well I cannot see them getting Ferrari, Mercedes or Ford / RB so that leaves Audi which could be difficult with what has happened recently

Honda's Ikuo Takeishi said himself that the goal was to have the car competitive for their home race with Koji Watanabe saying they intended to sort it sooner than that.

I know that Aston probably haven't been as light handed with the Honda situation as they could have been but this is supposed to be the pinnacle and it looks like Honda, yet again, aren't helping themselves with failures and missed objectives.

You can set any goal, doesn't mean you will hit it.

Does anyone have any recollection of past years in F1? They won 4 titles WDC in a row before Norris won a mercedes title last year.
Not credible they would bail out of this partnership. Its like people think they all just sit there in despair between races.

Honda has the capability to get there, but under these regulations, will they have the time and are they allowed to throw in the resources that it will require? Does Aston have the patience to wait for it?

Isn't the double stacking of batteries (and subsequent issues) not indicative of having to repackage the PU?

I come in peace from the MotoGP world... biggrin

It seems generally accepted some of the bike HRC guys are having to look at the F1 side more than MotoGP right this moment.

Whilst it said 'Honda' on the side of the Red Bull for the last years, more and more had shifted to Milton Keynes. F1 powertrains has effectively been started again at HRC. That's why they are in a bit of a pickle.

None of the ICE was Milton Keynes. The Energy store was there.

I can vouch for this . I was in agony sitting in the back seat of someone elses car after a few miles but can drive 100s of miles with no
problem in my own.
Maybe the hidden hand behind Newey is a consortium of Alonso Foe's lol

Its times like this you miss Eddie J.
I wonder what he would make of the situation? No holding back with that guy.
Having said that he did score the dream move for AN.
