That car is definitely a step in the right direction, if they can get as much of an improvement out of the Honda PU (which was losing seconds a lap to the others at Spa) as they did the car, they'll be in the top 10 in Zandvoort which is outrageous.

That doesn't sound right to me. He must be talking tenths. Assuming the deficit is on the ICE side of course. It could be part/all electrical, IE they may be having to limit the c-rate of their dodgy ES if it's still suffering from rapid degredation.
A positive start for the new motor at a filming day yesterday. Reportedly gained 30 bhp and lost the previous vibrations.

They just need Fred to move on, that's when they'll fix it - he's not supposed to have a competitive car.

I love when "experts "say things like seconds a lap without saying on what track. 1 second makes a big differance on a 2 min lap, less so on a 1 min lap

Andy Cowell should have been given a Japanese translator, an AAA pass to the Honda factory, and a house next door to it, the day after he was hired! The constant messing around with the senior management roles has been a feature of Stroll s running the team. They presumably spent a lot of money hiring the world s best hybrid engine guy, it should have made sense for him to spend at least half his time embedded with the engine supplier, even if it takes 15 hours on a plane to get there!
They’ve lost so much time messing around, this whole year is effectively a writeoff.

Manufacturing prototyping is super fast these days with modern tools, they will have bench single pot engines running constantly to prove out the combustion design, then once happy will rapid cast/machine the full engine with the new design. Mechanical stress of reciprocating components is less of a challenge than the 20K rpm NA engines. You'd add a bit more weight than you think is required to get the thing out in the field with the new design, then pair it back for next years spec after long load testing.I think Honda will get there but I don t think it will be quick. I can't see a 500BHP ICE unit being 90BHP down, that would be a proper cockup.
For some reason all ingredients in the pot at the same time. Factory,newey,honda. No way thats not a disaster to start with,but long term it

Days... As fast as they can design a mould for a block they can 3D print that mould and cast the alloy. They can directly 3D print other major components such as pistons and also the conrods via subtractive CNC. All in house, as fast as it takes the machines to complete the job.I bet they can have a one cylinder unit on the testbed within a week of deciding what it is they want to trial.
This stuff used to take many weeks if not months as each mould required a mixture of hand and CNC fabrication before they could cast anything. These days, once they have the CAD model they can pass it to the workshop and the parts start appearing without delay or relying on third parties for fabrication.
