Are F1 blocks still cast these days?
Thought they would be machined from billet or even additive manufactured these days.
You can't machine certain geometries, such as cooling paths etc. But the cast blocks are machine finished to final tolerance. It's the printing of the sand moulds that speed things up, the actual casting process is relatively quick.Thought they would be machined from billet or even additive manufactured these days.
Most other components are either additive or subtraction 'printed'.
